Is there any chance D'Antoni was trying to get the job with the Bulls to coach D. Rose, but he asked for too much money/the Knicks paid more than the Bulls were willing to pay?

I would guess that the Knicks salary offer was way more than anybody would offer, including the Suns.

Yep. The sense I had in Chicago was that Reinsdorf met with D'Antoni, but he did not want to pay Pringles quite as much. Glad he didn't hire Pringles, but I still can't believe they brought in Vinnie D instead.

What is really not said is how he "initiated it". I seriously doubt it was as simple as "hey I want out". There were wide reports that the front office wanted him to change some things up from a coaching perspective. His way of initiating things could be simply that he tells them no he is going to do it his way if they don't like it...it's time for me to move on.
