Ah, The D'Antoni Curse continues. 'Better the Knicks than us. That's why they are on the way down and we are on the way up. With rebounding, defense and strength in the post.

In the words of Marv Albert (formerly the voice of the Knicks, before his back-biting episode in bed), "Yesssssssss".

Well that was thoroughly a non answer to the question I put to you.

If you think the Knicks are "on the way down" you're delusional. This is the best team they've had in a few years and next year they'll have space enough to land a marquee FA, they're on the way up.

Percentage wise, we have a better record than the Knicks at this point (by very little, but still better). And we play in the West. Their future right now looks a little brighter than ours, but it's nice to see regardless.

I think we're quite a bit better than the Knicks right now. We faced them twice and split with them but we were a much more disorganized and ineffective group at that time. I also don't think they have much of an advantage in young talent and what little they do have is probably more than offset by our 2 first round picks.

All that said, their immediate future probably is brighter than ours as I think they will be able to add FA's in the off season that will surpass any that we might attract. This management team (including ownership) needs to convince the fans and the players that they are serious about winning and right now, there are a lot of people that hold the opposite view. I fall in the hopeful but undecided group. I liked the Hedo trade and love it more every day. If they can draft well and get something tangible for Carter, they'll win over a few more fans.

When comparing the two teams though I think it's also reasonable to look at where each of us are versus where we were. On an imaginary scale of 1 to 10, we were an 8 last year and they were a 3. Now, they're a 5 and we're a 6 playing in a much deeper conference. They can revel in the fact that they are on the upswing in addition to the fact they probably have an even better chance than we do of making the playoffs. Neither of us have much of a chance to advance but I'd give us the edge there.

That is only IF Amare stays healthy. That is a big gamble. The Suns with Gortat, Dudley and Dragic have a nice young core. When Nash retires, they will have money and they should be able to lure a big time PF or SG to go with that core. Who knows, with the draft picks, they may be able to get one of the two and then only need to sign one. As an outsider, I really likes the Suns future at this point over the Knicks. Carmello is a cancer IMO and him and a quick aging Amare will not go far.

"keeps benching him"....huh? The kid has played 15 minutes or more in the last 6 games and more than 20 in 5 of those 6. Before then he wasn't getting real consistent minutes because he's 1. a rookie from overseas learning the NBA, 2. The Knicks were winning w/ out needing him. D'Antoni wants to start Mozgov, he's said as much, but the kid has to show he can produce effectively and consistency, and it seems he's apparently now shown enough in practice for D'Antoni to give him a shot for a while.

D'Antoni isn't perfect but the vast majority of the knocks he gets on this board are just beyond stupid. That Knicks roster is pretty terrible and to be at .500 or above with them is very good, they'll be playoff bound this year, likely able to attract another big FA in the offseason and well back on there way to being a top 4 team consistently in their conference.

It has been reported that he is getting playing time to showcase him for all the trade talks. If they make moves, I am sure he will be part of them at this point.

So we now segue to the inevitable question of whether Mozgov was being showcased for inclusion in a possible trade for Anthony, a route the Knicks have been trying to maneuver down for the past several weeks by picking the brain of former Nuggets general manager Mark Warkentien about the best way to proceed forward.

Update:

NYK at 5-3 since this thread (including 2-3 with Melo) and the Suns are 7-3. This puts the Suns a full 1 game ahead of the Knicks, but the Suns are still fighting to get into the playoff race while the Knicks are solidly in (although they could drop)....

I'm hoping the Nets can keep Deron Williams. I'm sure the Knicks will likely go after him. The Knicks were bewildered to find out he was available. IMO, the Knicks would have chosen Williams over Anthony.
