People also forget there are some allegations of cocaine use, not just with the Las Vegas rolled up dollar bill in the bathroom.

When I saw he went to rehab, I was personally thinking, it was for multiple issues.

On top of all of this, people have forgotten that Manziel's own father admitted he was really concerned about his son's self-destructive streak and anger issues. this was between his Heisman year and the next season he played at A&M. But, when the guy was setting all kinds of SEC records and torching Nick Saban defenses no one worried for long. Now, what his Dad said is seeming 100% accurate.

Exactly, that really puts the gf beating allegations into context.

How anyone can defend this guy is beyond me.

He is just a few months out of rehab for christ sake. He is clearly an idiot.

I can easily defend him because you should be demoted of your on the field product if you haven't broken any rules. Manziel did what hundreds of other NFLers did on their bye week and he is the only one paying for it.

20 years ago there wouldn't have been an NFL if everyone got benched for drinking.

In the offseason he went to rehab and then is seen partying. Plus he had the incident with his girlfriend. His lack of judgement is the concern.

If its all about that he was drinking then why didn't they do anything when he admitted to drinking before his freeway fight with his GF?

I'm not trying to defend Johnny, the guy is a prick, but I'm trying to figure out the Browns logic in this. Maybe they told him after the thing with his girlfriend that he was on zero tolerance, but then why promote him to the starting job almost immediately after? Odd reward for dumb behavior. If it came out the Johnny had lied to them and told them he was staying in Ohio during the bye week, then it would make sense. But seriously, he went out to a few parties when the entire team was off for a week. I don't care if he went to a show rehab (which was not even for alcohol from what I gather), this on its own seems like a total non story.

I think Pettine can't stand the guy and would have cut him a long time ago if it were totally up to him. Ownership, however, was more hoping that he could be their QB of the future and was pushing for him to start and was even willing to overlook the incident with the girlfriend. Pettine relented but under the condition that Manziel would be under a zero tolerance policy. If he slipped up one more time then that would be it. He slipped up and here we are.

the general thought they were bringing up this morning on ESPN was that the Browns were waiting to see if the NFL was going to suspend him or not for the thing with the GF. They had presumably already internally dealt with it.

Once the NFL didn't suspend him, they named him the starter the rest of the season, and per Pettine, sat down and told him what they expected from him going forward.

Then he ends up on social media drinking and partying and doing exactly what they'd just told him NOT to do.

So yes I think it was a situation where once the NFL said no suspension they said ok you're the QB, but zero tolerance.

They give him the starting job to see how he will do and how does he respond. He parties knowing full well he completed rehab in the offseason. This ranks high on my list of ******** moves.

PS. Jerry Jones is probably waiting for the day the Browns cut him so he can add him to the circus in Big D

Personally, unless he's dating my daughter, I really don't care if he likes to party. Is he an NFL QB? That's all that matters to me. I hope you're wrong about Jerry Jones signing him, because the thought of having to root for the Cowboys scares me.

Unless one of the conditions the Browns put on him was that he was to remain sober throughout the season

Johnny is not like your typical NFL football player he is an addict

Addicts do not behave like the rest of us

Turns out Johnny got caught lying to the team and directly to the coach about the circumstances and timeline of this incident, and then encouraged his friends to also lie for him to cover it up.

I can buy giving him another chance with his drinking problem, but you lie to me about it, I'm done. I'd cut him now.

Typical addict behavior. Hopefully he goes into a good rehab program. He's not going to get sober without help.

No help in the world will get you cleaned up if your not ready to take that step yourself as a man. In the end it all comes down to you and wvat you want in life. He's clearly not ready or mature enough at this stage.

I stopped drinking eight years ago just a choice I made

Today Jason Whitlock likened him to JaMarcus Russell wrapped in Justin Bieber's body.
