Wow, I was wondering why he signed with Buffalo. Now I know :) Seems like a lot of money.

I personally think he's over rated. Would take Jared Allen or Demarcus Ware anyday of the week.

You're absolutely crazy. He was not only the only rusher on the Houston Texans that opposing offenses had to deal with, but really the only defender that the opposition had to concern themselves with.

For years.

Jared Allen and DeMarcus Ware are on the downsides of their careers. Mario Williams is just entering his prime.

Pass rushers like Williams rarely hit the open market. It's a lot of money, but I think he's worth it.

I think its great for Buffalo. He will make them better. Dave Wannstedt is the new DC and they will have a damn good defense especially Williams teaming up with DT Marcell Dareus.

and it will also have a trickle down, or more pour down raining effect when Campbell talks contract talks with us. He won't by no mean request that amount but his amount just went up up and up. Silly Cardinals would hardly have been overpaying if they would have signed him last season

Jared Allen and Ware are on their downsides? That might be why Allen was .5 sack away from tying the NFL record for sacks, and why Ware was 2nd in the league, again, with 19.5 sacks. In Houston, Connor Barwin had 11.5 sacks, without Mario Williams playing, so it's not as if they had "only one rusher". In fact, you could make more of an argument that Dallas/Minnesota have LESS of a supporting cast than Williams had in Houston. Ware and Allen are consistently in the top 10 for sacks; Williams definitely cannot say that.

Does this push Campbell's demands to 5yrs 50mil, 30 gtd? I think it will have to be around that amount.

Jared Allen is 29 years old. DeMarcus Ware is, too. Mario Williams is 2 years younger than those guys. Allen played with two of the best DTs in the game and another pretty good DE before last year. Ware played in Wade Phillips' pressure 3-4 along with a pro bowl NT.

The first five years of Williams' career, when he put up 48 sacks, who was he playing with? Amobi Okoye? Awesome.

Wade Phillips didn't coach Dallas' D this past year, yet Ware set a career high 19.5 sacks. Furthermore, no other player from Dallas even cracked the top 50 in sacks, so that just goes to show how big of a force Ware really is. Allen didn't have the Williams duo either, yet he almost made history. If I was going to spend $100M on a pass rusher, I'd rather take Ware/Allen who average twice as many sacks, and are always in the top 10, no matter who their supporting cast is.

K9 and I don't agree often. But i'll be damned if I don't agree with him here. Mario Williams = worth every penny.

Fair enough. We'll see who has more sacks next year, guaranteed it will not be Mario, however ;)

He's the next Bruce Smith for the Bills. I think this is actually a really big step for them. As a signing, maybe their Reggie White.

The extension of Fitzpatrick doesn't look as good as it did those first few weeks of last year, and I'm unconcvinced he's their next Jim Kelly...but in any case, this is something for the Bills to be excited about.

As for Ware and Allen, if I'm not mistaken, Ware signed a 7 year deal in 2009 and Allen still has a couple years on his contract, right? We can debate their merits vs. Williams, but they are simply not available this offseason.

It's worth adding that Jared Allen and DeMarcus Ware weren't available on the open market; Mario Williams was. Buffalo made a great deal.

Who else were they going to spend the money on?

My point was Allen and Ware are far better than Williams. Nonetheless, the Bills made a good move by acquiring him, seeing as how their pass rush was horrid last year. Hypothetically, if given a choice, I would choose Ware/Allen before I ever thought about Williams. I probably should've clarified intially to avoid confusion :)
