Raiders owner Mark Davis could not have been more clear about his intentions Wednesday, when he informed fellow owners that, barring an unexpected surprise, he plans in January to file papers to move his team from Oakland to Las Vegas, multiple sources told ESPN.

"Mark Davis said that he was committed to Las Vegas 100 percent, and that there were several market studies being done by the Raiders," said one source who was present when Davis made his presentation at the league meetings in Houston.

There appears to be growing support for Davis among some owners as he has made no progress with Oakland officials over the last few years and was given clearance to file for relocation to Los Angeles earlier this year, though he lost out to Rams owner Stan Kroenke. Also, Las Vegas has committed $750 million in public money toward building a new stadium, presumably near the Strip.

"I don't know what there is to say other than, 'Congrats, Raiders on getting the largest public subsidy ever and cleaning up our L.A. [mess]," another source familiar with the Raiders' presentation told ESPN. "They've busted their ass to get something done. I respect that. ... Once you've stepped up and produced something, you deserve better."

nfl will likely go for it... its all about money and they want every team to have a new(preferably domed) stadium.... vegas kicking in nearly a billion will turn that tide pretty easily I think

Airfare to Vegas is pretty cheap from anywhere. I can see if becoming a big-time destination road game for pretty much every team that travels there.

It's looking like a game of chicken between the Raiders and the city of Oakland. Problem with Oakland is the Raiders are holding all the high cards.

i must have missed it, but where will they play while the stadium is being built if they get the OK to move?

UNLV only holds 35k-ish

Oakland? Awkward!

The Raiders have a series of one-year leases at the Coliseum, which takes them through 2018. Unfortunately, the new stadium wouldn't be ready until 2020 at this point. Don't know what they'll do in 2019, because Sam Boyd Stadium in Vegas isn't up to NFL specs (they might play a preseason game or two there), and like you said, only holds 35-40K.

Playing in Oakland would be quite awkward to say the least. Can't say I'd want to be a fan at the last home game in Oakland.

It wouldn't be awkward to play their last season in Oakland.. it would be a farewell tour.

I'd feel bad for the fans in Oakland, but if there was ever a team for Vegas, it's the raiders

When the Oilers moved to Nashville, the stadium hadn't broken ground yet.

They played the first season in Memphis, but that didn't work out, so the next season they played at 40K Vanderbilt Stadium, which is a dump.

Other choices:

1) Play another season in Oakland
2) Play a season at the Rose Bowl
3) Play a season at the Coliseum (Rams will be gone in 2019)
4) Play a season at the new Rams Stadium (opening in 2019)
