My uneducated opinion is that a team would be crazy to take a QB in the top half of the first round. Too many good/safe players available.

Good article from NFL.com regarding drafting QB's.

A damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. . .

I think we could pull the trigger on say Aaron Murray, if they're real keen on bringing him in. You take him in the 3rd Rd. and groom him for two years behind Palmer and Stanton, and your risk reward goes way up in your favor.

You plan ahead, and way ahead for that position. That's your best bet.

On the other hand 8 of the top 10 QBs in passing yards last season were 1st round selections.

In addition 8 of the last nine SB winners had a first round draft pick at QB.

Yep
The most sure fire way (odds) of having a great QB is drafting one in the 1st round! History says so & believing there's a better way is insane!

Why do you like short QBs with a rag for an arm? :D

His arm is fine. He has the talent to go 2nd Rd. A year ago he was touted as sure 1st Rd. material. Being not the ideal height is his only draw back. If he's around in the 3rd Rd. you'd be foolish not to consider him, imo.

Duckjake, I was only talking about this draft, in not taking a QB in the top half of the first round.
1. Questions on all the QB's.
2. Good players at other positions.

He and BridgeH2O throw floaters.

my guess is drafting a talented QB is the right way to go....as the norm, those QB's with the most talent are usually identified by the NFL masses well in advance of the draft and all are aware of who they are....which is why they tend to go early in the draft. on occasion, guys with high levels of talent go unrecognized and slip...rarely.....however, drafting him in the first round is never going to make Bob Hill, QB, north central southern Nevada state....a super bowl winning QB

but one could argue that due to the investment involved in a first round pick over a fifth round pick....the first rounder gets more chances to succeed...where as with the fifth rounder it is more often than not....sink or swim....
