“We will strongly oppose any change in the rule,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told Politico.com. “We are on pace for a historic low number of blackouts since the policy was implemented 40 years ago. While affecting very few games the past decade, the blackout rule is very important in supporting NFL stadiums and the ability of NFL clubs to sell tickets and keeping our games attractive as television programming with large crowds.
Yeah, that's why millions of viewers tune in each week - to see the stadium crowds.

They'll opposed it, but there is a force on this earth that is greater than the NFL, believe it or not. It is called the Government. They have ways of forcing compliance.

In the NFL is a nonprofit for what reason?

It's a common business structure for sporting associations (which is the section of the Revenue Code is named for--501(c)6, I think). NFL Ventures is the for-profit entity which has merchandising, media, etc.

The PGA is a not-for-profit business, as well. NASCAR was once upon a time. I'm trying to advise a client to operate their entertainment company in this way, but they're resistant because clients are stupid.

MLB and NBA aren't, IIRC.

I guess you'll have to find an out-of-town team to root for during blacked out home games Tommy.

I'd suggest the Miami Dolphins...no one would see it coming!

LaShaun, I live in NJ.

That's a demerit! 30 second keg stand for you to serve penance.

Dude, I serious just laughed for about 20 minutes after reading that.

So true.

In my line of work the line is, "But, what do I know, I only do it for a living"
