As for the one-year contract that Moss signed with the Patriots this week -- which replaces the two seasons he had remaining on his deal with the Oakland Raiders -- it includes a roster bonus of $500,000 and a base salary of $2.5 million. There is an escalator that could raise the value by $1.5 million if Moss reaches certain predetermined performance levels, and $250,000 in incentives that he's not likely to earn.
The 2007 cap charge for Moss, who was to have earned base salaries of $9.75 million this season and $11.25 million for '08 under his Raiders' contract, is an affordable $3.06 million

Any thoughts to why he would give up so much money? He would have earned 9.75 million this year and he agreed to 2.5 million base + incentives. He also gave up the second year on the contract. I understand he's going to a winning program, but thats alot of cookies to leave on the table. Not sure I would do the same...............your thoughts?

He wants to win and ring. This isn't much different than when Corey Dillon went to New England.

I suspect Randy figured out that the only way he was going to be traded was if he agreed to a new deal --- and if he didnt get traded, he was likely to be cut --

either way, the odds were low that he was going to see that $9.75 million this season anyway.

Sounds like Randy Moss is becoming a team player and he not out there being me player. He wants to win a super-bowl ring.

With Moss, Stallworth, Washington and Welker at WR the Patriots are going to have the best set of WRs that they have ever had with Tom Brady...They were close last year and with the losses on the Colts defense the Patriots have to be considered the team to beat.

The Patriots got a smoking deal to get Moss.

Funny, I see it as being a me player... as in "How can I get a ring.

That is funny. Every player thinks like that. A "me player" doesn't take a pay cut to help a team win a championship. according to this article that is exactly what Moss did. The first step in becoming a team player.
