Ouch.. Take this for what its worth but...

The Houston Chronicle and SI.com have all had blurbs confirming that the Washington Redskins are on the cusp of finalizing a deal that would bring Pro Bowl defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to Our Nation's Capital. The terms of the deal state the contract will be in the $100 million range, averaging roughly $15 million per year.

Good. The skins will still not make the playoffs, and that only increases our chances of beating Tennessee next season.

I'm sorry, but not even Fitzgerald is worth $100M.....yet.

And the Redskins will still wallow in mediocrity.

Fat Albert is a monster when motivated. I have a feeling that when he gets that mammoth of a contract, he might lose sight and disappoint. Oh well, I hope they enjoy their new d-line snake oil.

I hate Daniel Snyder becasue he ALWAYS overpays and ALWAYS inflates players salary scales accross the league because of thier carelessness.

With This Nation in its' Economic Situtation Only makes One Think...???

I hope that the People of the NFL get a clue that this type of greed and Spending is not appropriate for the times this nation is in or for a person who really doesn't desire this type of money...!!! Not even Fitz who is a true Superstar in the NFL would also agree that this kind of money for any player is
absurd.

Hail to the Redskins...:mulli:

If the Skins do this is it just fitting given what has happened in Washington in the last month. Obama spends trillions more $$$ on our nations debt and the Skins make a big fat guy, fatter.:biglaugh: In the NFL you cant buy a championship. Snyder and Jerry Jones will never learn.

A lot of people are going to be blown AWAY by what salaries do this year. This will be one of those huge jump years. $100M for the best DT in the game? Not as far fetched as you think.

The issue of the "economy" is moot when that is the going rate for great players and teams need those player to make billions of dollars. Where the economy will hit player is maybe in the signing bonus, but even that is doubtful.

It sounds like a 6 or 7 year deal, and it's unclear how much of that money is or is not guaranteed.

If most of it is in guarantees and bonuses, it has the distinct aroma of Danny Snyder feeling neglected on the public stage and seeking a little attention.

While there's nothing wrong with showing a little love to big, havoc-wreaking NT's, it is a "collision-position" which takes its toll on the bodies of the guys who play it.

To spend that kind of money on a guy whose shelf-life might be riskier than a RB is pretty scary - kind of reminds me of when Ditka bet the store on Ricky Williams (with the Redskins ironically being the beneficiary of Mike's "wisdom").

How the Redskins do this going into an uncapped year is beyond me.

isn't it tampering to have started working on a deal with a free agent before Friday?

This is a joke. They are floating this into the media to make sure Albert shows up in D.C. on free agency day. It's even somewhat irresponsible of the media to suggest that negotiations are ongoing when that would be in volation of free agency.

I dont follow, can you explain that to me?

2010 is an uncapped year per the current CBA. A new CBA isnt even close to being discussed as the NFLPA doesnt even have a president yet and their selection process has been tenuous to say the least.

These conditions could lead to a strike or lockout for the 2010 season.

Many NFL GMs and owners have been carefully planning, given the current economic conditions, how they will structure contracts into future years. Say you give a guy a monster deal well into the future and the total cap number shrinks via a new CBA, a team could be paying a larger portion of their cap to one player.

The Cards have alluded to this in interviews, as have many other NFL folks. The guys over at www.nationalfootballpost.com have a good handle on it too.

Thanks, this is the first I have heard of the cap possibly shrinking. Either way. next year wont be a problem, because the Skins have plenty of dough.
