Apparently he was fired because the GM wanted EJ Manuel to start this week to give him a look and Rex refused. He was going to be fired either way, but refusing to give him got an extra week of vacation.

Kind of says it all;

Can't we say this about most teams though? Aside from Belichick, the longest tenured coach is Lewis with 14 seasons(although something tells me this might be his last), McCarthy with 11 seasons and Tomlin with 10 seasons. Other than that you have Harbaugh with 9 seasons and a few others with 5 or so. Bad franchises like ours change coaches like everyone else changes socks.

Man talk about getting off on the wrong foot...

Sucks that they gave him the boot.

He was coaching like he had two left feet all year.

Hopefully he can dip his toes into coaching again someday.

I bet he feels like a heel right now.

You calling Brady a system QB?
I'm not going to argue with you on the greatness of Tom Brady or Bill Belichick. They are both certain Hall of Famers. Belichick is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches not just in the league today but of all time. If you want to believe that he isn't good that's your prerogative. You can believe anything you want. You can believe that the world is flat and man never walked on the moon. You can even believe that Elvis is still alive for all I care.

Then how do you explain Coach B's 36-44 record in Cleveland and 25-22 in his first 3 seasons in N-E.?

And if Any Reid could win the big one, he'd still be in Philly.
Bad teams. It takes a few years to make a bad team yours. Look at Knoll's first few years in Pittsburgh. The NFL has many other examples.

Are ppl forgetting the Patriots were a defensive juggernaut during their first 3 Super Bowl runs? They didn't become an elite offense until 2007.

Yes. If he was on the Browns or any other crap team he isn't a hall of famer. He was the perfect fit for BB's system. Why else would Cassel & others look great under BB but look like crap elsewhere? BB has perfected a modified west coast offense. It's not a true WCO. It's a BB offense. His system really does work.

They run a pick almost every single pass and no one is better at it. Very difficult to shut down their short passing game.

last I checked Coach B is not an offensive guru but he has one on staff who was there when Casell had his miracle season.

interesting that 'good' coincided with the emergence of one Tom Brady.
Right. Except in 2008 when they went 11-5 with a backup playing all 16 games (and did it without warning I may add) and who has not done anything since leaving the team. And except for going 4-1 with a backup to start this season. Then yeah....except for winning every time Brady has been out he never wins without Brady.

Cassell didn't have his best year in New England. His best season was in KC with Todd Haley.

Also it's funny when ppl point to 2008 to discredit Brady yet it's the one year they didn't make the playoffs.

It'll be interesting to see how Belichick does without Brady, presuming he doesn't retire when Brady does. I see no reason why he can't be successful, but it will be interesting to see him have a question mark at QB for a while. Or maybe they hang on to Garoppolo and he's the Steve Young to Brady's Montana.

Belichick is like Gregg Popovich...he'll win no matter what.

Oh come on now, they won 11 games so not making the playoffs was just bad luck and you know it.

I can't stand Billacheat but I recognize he is a brilliant HC. Yes Brady may be the best QB ever to play the game but if he is drafted by the Browns his career last 4 years unless Billacheat picks him up as a FA.

I don't get how people can ignore the W/L record Billacheat has put together as a HC in his career. Was Bill Walsh so successful because of Montana and Young? Was Bradshaw the reason the Steelers were so good and won so many SB's or does Chuck Noll get more of the credit?

I think most of us can agree that typically a team needs a good HC and QB to have a chance at a SB win. Of course there are exceptions but the majority of the time that combo is what wins championships.

I'm in agreement about Belichick but ppl trying to discredit Brady by bringing up Cassell is the hottest of all takes.

and now the brilliant strategists in Buffalo are going to start E J Manuel over Tyrod Taylor and are kicking the tires on Tom Coughlin as HC.

No one wins in the NFL without a good QB and the Bills haven't had one since Jim Kelly. They continuously stockpile garbage QBs that end up getting HCs and OCs fired.

Bart Scott blasts Marcell Dareus for saying Rex Ryan's defense was too complicated

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/b...saying-rex-ryans-defense-was-too-complicated/

"That might sum the whole thing up -- because that's the guy that you gave $100 million," Scott said of Dareus during an appearance this week on CBS Sports Radio's The DA Show. "Instead of reading his playbook, he was too busy lighting up. Are you serous? First of all, I've been in this system my entire career. Eleven years, I've been in this system. As a defensive lineman, you only have like four (or five) fronts. Man, if you can't remember five fronts, I don't know what to tell you, bro. We can't put the playbook in crayon. ...

"I've had teammates that were special needs in high school and college," Scott continued. "I played with at least four teammates that were dyslexic and they picked it up. So Marcell Dareus needs to be re-evaluated. I don't know what his Wonderlic was, but for him to say that defense was complicated, I don't know."

Wow...that is phenomenal! I have to agree, though...no matter how complicated it may seem, if after 2 years you still can't pick it up, the problem is probably on you! These are reasons why players have been cut from the Cards, too...can't pick up BA's complicated offense after 1 or 2 years.

Bottom line: The Ryan's took a top of the food chain 4-3 "D" under Schwartz and turned it into a dumpster diving hot mess.
