After nearly a year and 1/2 of unemployment I have found a great job with a company who's headquarters are in St Louis. They sent me there for a week and just got back and I must say North and South St Louis are far worse than South Phoenix will ever be. I went out to check out the area (my hotel was next to the Arch) and I had at least 30 kids, yes kids about age ten approach me to buy crack. I took several photos of the desolate areas and was chased once by a car full of, well, not very nice youth. When I returned my rental it had a bullet hole in it, I had no idea!! I kid you not!! Thank goodness for supplemental insurance. The hood started about at the Rams stadium north and the Cardinals stadium south. I was told that St Louis loses about 10,000 residents a year more than move there. While there are many beautiful areas around the city, I would advise anyone traveling there to avoid the areas directly North and South of the city. But the Arch is absolutely a site/ride to see. I will gladly go back anytime but wow, it was quite an awakening!

These kids wanted to buy crack or sell? Their parents need their ass beat for putting them in a situation where they're even talking about crack. I've been to that area of the city and pretty much avoid it. People usually ask me for money. (I've given money to people sometimes--and then ran! Just kidding! ) If you're in business areas of the City it's not AS bad. (People still ask you for money--don't know about the crack!) Did you happen to see Laclede's Landing just East of the Edwards Jones Dome? Some cool bars down there--Mississippi Nights is a great place to hear smaller national bands--rock, blues, reggae, punk, jazz, etc--a good mix. Where were you parked when you got the bullet hole?

The kids were selling from what I saw. From the Adam's Mark hotel where I was staying, my excursion took me North on Tucker which turned into Florissant. I cut off to the East and hit the neighborhoods from Chambers, N Market, Benton, St Louis, Wright and further North. I never parked, I was taking pictures of some of the very cool looking old buildings, churches, houses, etc. It had to have been a small caliber handgun as it didn't make it through the back door. There I was just cruising around with the local heavy metal radio station cranked in my white Taurus rental wearing my Arizona Cardinals attire. I never felt threatened as I was in my car and avoided areas where large congregations of people were out in the streets. But enough of the negative, it is a beautiful city for the most part with so much history. I would have no problem going back. The Forest Park area was beautiful with 100+ year old mansions with grand ballrooms on the 4th floors!

Didn't get to see a Cardinal game as they were away this past week but saw plenty of the construction where they are building the new stadium. Drove by Edward Jones stadium, ironically that is who I am working for.

Thanks for the concern, guys. Glad to be home and dry heat is better than high humidity!!!!! :D

Matt
