I think I'm the only one who sees it this way but watch the 3rd time they show it and tell me that the DT from Green Bay(think it's #79) isn't really the guy who caused the fumble?

they went on and on about Matthews, even NFL.com labels is Matthews causes a fumble, but it looks like the DT actually jars the ball loose first and Clay just finishes him off.

You could say both but it did look like CM hit his elbow and knocked it out.

Hey Russ, doesn't it depend on whether or not the DT went to USC? :)

No it's more I don't like these really obvious PED users getting so much hype.

I tried to re-watch that video someone told me the 4th look shows it's clearly Matthews who caused the ball to come out. but when I tried again it crashed my computer with an unknown windows error so I gave up.

who is NOt an obvious PED user?

I'm not saynig he's the only guy in the game using but he's one of those guys who completely changed himself because of PED's. He's the poster child for HGH if you google before and after HGH pics he absolutely fits them to a T, he says he developed late and it's a family genetics thing, I think it's more when they realized he wasn't going to get much bigger naturally, they(family, USC who knows) put him on a PED program.

I've detailed it before here's just one story on his background note the article is actually defending him against the rumors http://www.lostlettermen.com/?p=25628

I just don't like to see people who take shortcuts get rewarded for it.

I agree Russ, I said the same thing. Clay played a large role cause he stopped the runners path, but it was the DT who knocked it out.

If we are talking about the same crucial fumble by the Steelers late into the second half, from my perspective, the Packers player got a helmet on the ball which caused it to pop out. I even bored my wife with this detail over and over again.

it definitely looked like the DTs helmet came in on the ball and then matthews sealed the deal by jarring the arm and pushing him into the DT and subsequently into the ground

#79 Ryan Pickett, THE Ohio State University.

It was funny the previous play had just ended and my wife asked who I thought would win the MVP. I said I thought Mendenhall was the best player on the field. 8 seconds later...fumble. :(.

So you think he gained 90 pounds of muscle after his junior year of HS without using anything? Seriously? And it was coincidence that rumors hit before the draft that he and Cushing(workout partners at USC) both tested positive at the combine? When that rumor was squelched we were all supposed to believe they were really clean? And then when Cushing tested positive we were really supposed to believe his preposterous excuse for how he tested positive but was really clean?

The only difference between Clay and Cushing is Cushing got caught, Clay has been smart enough not to.

I wanted Green Bay to win because I like Rodgers, I just felt that FOX played up the whole Clay Matthews thing to such an extent they didn't even bother to look at the replay and consider that it might not have even been him who jarred the ball loose. They were so focussed on getting us that sideline story of Kevin Greene telling him "it's time" that it didn't fit their agenda to go oh by the way on second look it might have been the DT who actually caused the fumble.

If you want to believe that Clay is totally clean feel free, I have no delusions there aren't players on the cards who use too, I don't like it either. More often than not people who have those rumors around them turn out to be users, including Mandarich, Merriman, Canseco, McGwire and on and on.

Just as you can make accusations, I can counter them, and until you can prove those accusations, you are doing nothing but gossip mongering....a most unmasculine trait. By the way, Taylor Mays was closer to being Cush's workout partner and he was his roommate, they shared the same specialized diet which was delivered to them, and the same dedication to supplement use. That was not true of Clay, and yes, a young male can experience a big growth spurt between 16-22, it happened to my own brother.

I was cheering for Aaron as well, I have no agenda against any player out of the PAC-10 or anywhere else (unless they commit robbery or academic fraud)...I'm even a big Vince Young fan. lol

Ok so let's expand on this your brother gained 90 pounds of muscle during that time? Was your brother the son of an NFL legend and the nephew of another NFL legend? Why is that relevant, you don't think young Clay had access to nutrition and training beyond what the normal kid his age gets? You don't think his dad and uncle gave him tips on nutrition, weight training, exercise regimens etc?

That's what makes the whole thing so preposterous, I can see a kid who had never had access to that sort of thing and then in 5 years of college he gets bigger and stronger because of it but Clay is not that kid, he had access to that stuff growing up.

What Clay got access to at USC was the same thing Cushing did and yes they're very good friends and workout buddies. Would it surprise me if Taylor Mays used too, of course not, I like the kid alot people here will tell you I was one of the people touting him. But he too is the son of an NFL player and he's the perfect counter to your Clay comments, he came into USC chiselled of granite and was an instant impact start. Early bloomer maybe, but it didn't hurt he had access to training and nutrition that most kids his age don't get.

He's a great player, he may never test positive, many don't, but if you polled NFL players and asked them who are the 10 biggest PED users I bet he's rated top 5.

You can't even get past Clay Matth in google without it offering up steroids as one of the options, because there are so many rumors around him and have been for 3-4 years now.

fair or not -- what the baseball PED scandal did was to make any athlete who exhibits a sudden and material performance "boom" subject to PED speculation.

Matthews fits into that category.

All that said, it would be nice to pick up Casey Matthews. Family history does show that he will be a hard worker and at least serviceable. Not a bad college career.

I could see him being a juicer back then to pick up some weight and improve his strength while in college. I kinda doubt he would still take such risks, but that's just my common sense side kicking in. Dude killed it in the superbowl, and I bet there were dozens of reporters digging on this during that 2 week hysteria before the big game, but it's like finding a needle in a ....

I think he "allegedly" did it the smart way if that's the route one chooses to take. I am sure he has and had plenty of advice on his ear since graduating High School. If he is juicing right now, I do consider that cheating and an unfair advantage on the field, and down right stupid.

I was kinda thinking the NFL fellows willing to take that risk would me the mediocre guys or the guys at the end of their career. But I would only call me opinionated and not knowledgeable on this, if you've ever seen how skinny I am, you know I am telling the truth. :D
