Touching the facemask isn't a penalty. By the letter of the law its grabbing, controlling & twisting of the helmet.

Bad call.

riiiiight... and I'm sure you'd be completely letting the refs off the hook if that play happened to Palmer and they didn't throw the flag.

From Florio @ PFT:

“No player shall grasp and control, twist, turn, push, or pull the facemask of an opponent in any direction,” Rule 12, Section 2, Article 14 states.

The rule comes with an important caveat: “If a player grasps an opponent’s facemask, he must immediately release it. If he does not immediately release it and controls his opponent, it is a foul.”

No foul.

See I was right :D

All the defender did was grace the facemask with 1 finger then his hand hits Arods shoulder.

Good find

I'm honestly am very much for the correct call being used even when it's for/against my Redbirds.

I still say we got away with one a huge one in that 2009 playoff game.

My two cents is that it wasn't a face mask penalty, however a penalty still should have been called on the play because it was an illegal horse collar tackle.
.

How can a horse collar tackle be called when the defender doesn't get inside the jersey or pads? I didn't see that either.

With the Packers down to one starting offensive lineman, the Lions should have been sending disguised blitzes on every down.
There is no way in hell that was a horse collar lol

Nor was it a face mask... The Lions got jobbed but it happens happen to us thousands of times over the years so I'm not crying over it but it was definitely the wrong call ...

Looks like the index and middle fingers are hooked inside the shoulder pads to me.

Honestly with the refs should've done was called the blatant offense of pass interference on the Packers on the play before

I remember our once mighty midget Mike Adams touch the holy facemask regarding the Saint Aaron guy in a playoff game with Dansby scoring the winning touchdown and they called it correctly... no penalty :)

What's getting lost in the craziness is the face mask play happened after a 15 yard lateral from the guy who caught the Hail Mary. Richard Rodgers!

I thought it was forsure an incorrect call... But, in the refs defense, at full speed it totally 'looks' like a facemask. Like when it first happened I thought oh you idiot!

Refs need to get it right, but this is one that I can understand, it looked like a facemask and the way Aaron got whipped around made it really, really look like a facemask.

Wrong call 100% but these guys are humans. There have been a bunch of just ridiculously moronic calls this year but I think this one is just human error that is unavoidable from time to time. This is why I dont get having replay but only applying it to certain scenarios. If you're not sure if it was a facemask, have the guys upstairs take two seconds to check.

So for these refs, I get it, but this is yet another black eye on the NFL system of enforcing vague rules and bizarre replay restrictions... They need to change.

The NFL is huge but I dont think it is 100% invincible. There are the diehards that will always be fans but there are also a ton of casual fans who are starting to not take the game seriously. I have seen a ton of people post on social media this year things like; "The NFL is so fake!" after bad calls that affected the outcome of games, like tonight.

It was a Hail Mary- not amazing in the sense that he wasn't targeting anyone in particular

He launched that throw from his own 38 yard line and didn't throw it on a line drive. He launched it way high which further enabled Rogers to get under it... It was a tremendous throw that maybe one or two other QB's could make... Maybe...

Just like the "helmet blow" to Palmer last week? [emoji3]

If you don't think it was maybe your name is Ray Charles & I don't know what to tell you. ;)

Palmer said it was after the game, I saw it & even Blowdino defended it. It was clear as day to me & Palmer helmet popping up on his head while it happened & almost coming off afterward tells the story.

Blindino?? LOL... I'm sure this blown call (even Wolf admitted it was a blown call and he's as big of a homer as they come!), had nothing to do with this crew being demoted....
It wasn't a penalty and most objective people agree...

That is a penalty in today's NFL. His facemask was turned pretty violently. Even if he let it go right away, that is still a penalty.

I can see why the ref made the call and in real time I thought it was a face mask. In super slow mo one sees that while the face mask gets hooked by a finger for half a second it slips right off and is not grasping or twisting etc that would constitute a penalty.

So while Cheese says what would you think if it was Palmer instead of Rodgers I'm thinking what if that was CC instead of ... I would hate to lose a game like that.

I do feel horrible for the Lions and their fans because as Cards fans we have lived through some similar losses ourselves. Good news for them is that their draft position improved and they weren't going to the playoffs anyway. I also remember saying that to myself as a Cards fan for countless years. :(

Was Calvin Johnson not on the field during that hail mary?

Why would Calvin be on the field. Jim " the mope" Caldwell would have had to make the call. He is the "deer caught in the high beams" coach. Blame the ref's call all they want, but that "hail Mary" defense was laughable. Throw was perfect. Catch was clutch. Go Pack.

Look what idiot Blandino has to say this morning...

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...iew-of-facemask-call-wouldnt-have-changed-it/

If he's not fired today, the NFL has ZERO integrity. Zero.
