I'm certainly willing to give the UFL a try but they are NOT impressing me so far. The California Redwoods? Las Vegas Locomotives? Florida Tuskers?

I guess all that's left is to name the New York team, which will likely be the "New York Nothing to do with New Yorkers". Okay, Redwoods are in California but since when is a tree something to emulate on the football field?

Sadly, the names are only a minor gripe compared to the god awful uniforms. I guess if one hates everything about the NFL but loves football then the UFL might have a fan base. Otherwise, I really don't see how they plan on attracting fans with what they've trotted out so far.

I'm probably right there with everyone else in expecting this league to fall flat on it's face unless it quickly announces itself as a minor league system for the NFL but jeez god, those uni's make the XFL look good. What's with all the teal, turquoise, sea green, etc.? Is this supposed to be a environmentally safe league or something?

Agreed! It's got to be intentional, but I have no idea why they would want the colors that loud and ugly. And I thought the Sacramento Surge and Orlando Thunder uniforms were ugly. Only 4 teams? O well, not like it really had a chance anyways.

I'm curious why they put teams in cities, states with 2 or 3 NFL teams.

NY-Giants, Jets and Bills
FL- Miami, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay
Bay Area- Raiders, Niners

Vegas was a good idea, and I noticed they have players with ties in the Southwest in JP Losman (From CA, big name QB), Tyson Thompson (TX HS records, San Jose St, Cowboys), Terrence Whitehead (From CA, went to Oregon), Ted

Then there are the former Cardinals and U of A players just representing the AZ connection in Adam Bergen, Tim Rattay, Russ Kolodjiez, Ronnie Palmer (U of A), Wendell Bryant

Why not have teams in...

-Oklahoma City and load the team with former Big Ten stars that didn't make it in the NFL
-Birmingham, Alabama and load the team with Auburn, Alabama and other southern players that tore up the SEC.
-LA fill the roster with former Pac-10 players

Amazes me that they went for markets that will be difficult to capture.

The UFL went for markerts that apparently were "underserved" by professional football. Some of the things mentioned were that both NY NFL teams play in New Jersey, and not the City. The 49ers are allegedly moving..Florida was meant to be based in Orlando, but with the Rays revealed as the owners, maybe not.

The Unis are pretty bad. For some reason they decided the uniforms each had to embody the colours of the UFL logo. Baby Blue and Neon green are rather garish IMHO.

I actually think the names are somewhat better compared to what weve seen lately.
especially the redwoods. i like that.

Charlotte Bobcats because the owners name is bob... thats terrible.
Any WNBA name.
Toronto Raptors. Obviously a Jurassic park era expansion.

If the NFL develops this league with its backing, it could become a minor league for the NFL.

I have not seen or heard aboput these teams and league. Are they on TV, have they started yet? Why would I watch some retreads like Bryant?

Back to thinking about tonight.

Thursdays I think, and on the Versus network.

The names are stupid and the unis are ugly. If they don't want to fold they might as well become the d-league for the NFL.

You'd think a team named the redwoods would have red in their uniforms.

The names remind of names you'd see in a cheesy movie about pro football.

I could actually see them working pretty well as a minor league system of the NFL especially if they play their cards right. So far they've done a pretty good job like finalizing their rosters after NFL training camps cut down to 53, allowing their players out of a contract if an NFL team signs them and they end their season before the playoffs start. I actually think the NFL would be wise to work with the UFL.

It could be beneficial in a ton of ways, teams could 'allocate' players to the UFL like they did the NFLE and instead of having to sign guys off the street like Stephen Spach when you get a rash a injuries, you just pull up a guy on the UFL roster. At least the guys would be in football shape with the NFL's help they could expand to all kind of new markets. Heck this could even be their way to break into international markets. Put a team in Mexico or Europe. Who cares if those guys have crazy travel schedules?

With as many NFL names that are involved and the way they are structuring things I can't help but think that the unspoken plan is for this to be a developmental league. NFL Europe turned out some solid pro's and I think there should be an intermediate league between NCAA and the NFL.

As far as their uni's looking like some bad movie, I think I much prefer Shane Falco's uniform in the Replacements or even Bobby Boucher's brown uniform over these things. Is it just a coincidence that the UFL logo and team uniforms are the exact same color scheme as the SB XLIII logo?
