I probably would, but I wouldn't sever a binding contract in order to do it. I'd wait until that contract came up.

Fisher took advantage of his daughter's condition and the Jazz's good will in order to circumvent the CBA, then joined a conference rival because it was better for his career. It would be like if I was a high-level executive with Microsoft, begged out of my contract making some bereavement argument, and then a month later took a major position with Apple.

It wasn't "better for his career."

He took less money and went to a team in turmoil. I don't see how that is "bettering" your career. It so happens that his presence helped smooth the turmoil and the team FAR exceeded expectations.

The Jazz were in the WCF last year. The Lakers bounced first round, and their star was bitching ALL SUMMER...starting with his post-playoff press conference.

Fish wasn't walking into a fairytale...in fact, he took a huge "career risk" for less money on a team in turmoil that didn't get as far as his former team did.

To spin it otherwise betrays your bias.

If he flies to NY for her treatments, why did he have to leave Utah? Just asking.

Did you not read the part about the second best guy in the nation being in LA?

Of course you didn't...you couldn't use it as some kind of smarmy retort.

It's a legitimate question to a post written by someone other than you so unless you can answer it, shut up.

Uhm, I'm the one who wrote the post, genius. You replied to me, and my comment.

But heaven forbid you follow along or know wtf you are talking about at any time.

I agreed with everything you wrote up until this. Of course you are right that the little girl did nothing, but Fisher isn't exactly an innocent victim here. He traded on his daughter's health crisis in order to advance his professional career. I find that repulsive and unforgivable. The fan's behavior is entirely out of line, but Fisher should have difficulty looking himself in the mirror after this season.

Congratulations, you win the "stupidest post of the day" award for today.

Advancing his professional career? Are you f**cking kidding me? Are you this dumb?

Derek Fisher left the Jazz after they advanced to the Western Conference Final, to go to a team in shambles that was eliminated in the 1st round of the Playoffs for the 2nd straight year, after not even making the play offs 3 years prior. Do you really think Derek Fisher was clairvoyant enough to foresee that the Lakers would have Andrew Bynum finally emerge as a legit big man, make a trade for Trevor Ariza, and secure Pau Gasol in the beginning of the off season? Fisher got less money to go to a team that at the beginning of the season, no one predicted being higher then a 7th seed. Most "experts" had the Lakers out of the playoffs all together. Just because the doctor is said to be the "second best" you're basing the whole theory on that? That's the weakest argument I have ever heard. The Doctor is the 2nd best in the world and happens to live in a city where Fisher lived a good portion of his life and had a team that wanted him, so he moved there, period.

Get your facts straight before making such stupid statements.

And where he would start, not back up an emerging All-Star.

To spin it otherwise betrays your bias.

I could say the same to you.

Well, first of all, anyone with a brain knew that Bryant was staying put, and Jackson with him. Fisher was moving into a position that would be very comfortable for him professionally. I don't know who your "experts" were that had the Lakers out of the playoffs, but I sure never had them in the lottery. (No, I didn't have them winning the Pacific either.)

Just because the doctor is said to be the "second best" you're basing the whole theory on that? That's the weakest argument I have ever heard....

I will if you will. Nowhere have I said anything about the "second best doctor" argument.

The Doctor is the 2nd best in the world and happens to live in a city where Fisher lived a good portion of his life and had a team that wanted him, so he moved there, period.

No. That would be true if he had been a free agent. He was not. He was contractually bound to the Jazz. They let him out of his contract as a humane courtesy -- not so that he could go play for a rival.

Answer me this: If the Jazz knew that Fisher was heading straight for the Lakers, would they have released him? Hell no. They would have worked out a different arrangement. He played the parenting card in order to double-cross his employer.

I think Derek is a great man, he is so brave and is going through so much. He left a good team for a decent team that became good, nothing wrong with that. He left one for the other because his daughter's health is is number one thing in life.

I can't really say if he left to advance his career, but knowing as much as I do about him, he isn't like that. That guy is so humble its not funny. Especially for a guy who has 3 rings.

You're asking me to speculate here, which will just set up further disagreement. The Jazz knew when they released Fisher that he would likely wind up with another team. Did they know that team would be the Lakers? probably not, but I don't believe at the time that Fisher himself knew he would be a Laker. He asked to be let go so he could live someplace where he could get treatment for his daughter. The Lakers called him AFTER his release and showed interest, the city had what he needed, it was a good fit.

I opt to believe that Utah's ownership would make the same move again, because their concern was with the well being of his daughter and they put that above basketball. Again, pure speculation on my part, I have no way of knowing what the ownership of the Jazz were thinking, I don't know them. I just find it silly that everyone uses the situation to once again make up phantom conspiracies.

Fish while maybe being a good guy did use his daughters condition to get out of his contract period. Whether he knew he was going to be a laker or not really isn't relevant except if Utah knew he still wanted to play they could have traded him or something. He came to Utah like he needed to be released from his contract so he could care for his daughter, not to go and sign with another team a rival even very quickly after his release.

I may be insensitive but why didn't he moved to New York and signed with the Knicks (or the Nets) if he cared that much about his daughter's health? That's where the best doctor/surgeon is, after all.

Bubble-itis. The real world is so far removed, that such things are funny, and have no bearing on their lives. The parallels of these actions transcends an entire culture, and imo is a source of great weakness.

A weakness that at this point appears it still goes to the heart of its culture.

It's not all the fans, and low class fans are everywhere, but when I see multiple, separate, widespread ignorant/racist/scumbag comments, and most don't even bat an eye is just sickening. I believe we've heard similar things in past years as well, but not this bad. But a pattern it is.

You couldn't pay me to live in such a place of oppression of thoughts, feelings, and truth.

Those fans should go to LA and spout the same stuff, and let their bubble be burst.

While they're there they should look around and see how bad some parts of the United States is, and realize they are a part of making this country what it is. Spouting such hatred isn't just how we let such places exist, it also takes people that will just sit by and allow such hatred to be spouted. Check and Check. Case Study was the game, and backed by precedent via previous years.

Even chants show implicit desire by the crowd at large. You don't get a chant unless a fair percentage of the arena are shouting it. In such a situation, that means a very large percentage of the population had someone around chanting, thus their chance to set things straight, and did not. Widespread is sickening.

Way to still look like you're stuck in the 60's Utah. Now it's up to Utah to clean it up, because that house sure looks filthy. Cheer your team, not your race. Start there, but don't end there. Absolutely disgusting.

I agree here. When his daughter's condition was made public, she was having surgery in NY, and all the reports were that NYC was where her best care could be had. Then all of a sudden he leaves Utah and within a short time signs with the Lakers? Something was very 'fishy' there (no pun intended...lol) It makes it even sound worse when he flies to NY to have her treatment continued.

Very well, I'm just going to bow out of this debate since I don't think it's going to prove very fruitful. I don't think anyone is going to convince me my view is wrong, and I likely won't convince anyone else.

I got a little angry in that thread and tossed around a few unnecessary insults, apologies to the recipients. I'll respect your opinions, even though I couldn't disagree more. You guys want to think it's another conspiracy for the Lakers, that's cool by me. With all do respect, I'll never ever agree with you, but everyone is welcome to believe what they want.

Peace guys.

I don't think anyone ever suggested that. Maybe you would have been less angered by the opposing views if you had taken the time to understand them.

Fish is a class act. Jazz fan may have leap-frogged Suns fan as the "brown" standard of NBA fan.

you know.

if fisher didnt want to be in this debacle that "we" put him in.
i know its not his fault he's in this situation.

but he could have left utah.
stayed with his daughter.
&
never signed with anyone else.

if he truely loved his kid.
he wouldn't be signing contracts.
looking for another team.
going to practice.
devoting time to another "love".

he'd cherish every day with this duaghter.
spending days with her, not evenings.

he's well off compared to the rest of us bums.

i dont see why it couldnt have happened that way.

Jeez.. I found the Kobe sign fine. However the whole cancer thing is seriously one twisted mormon.

Huh? Perhaps he is Catholic, or Jewish, or.... The incident would not have been justified by the teachings of the LDS church or any other Christian denomination.

Conspiracies require more than one person, thus there can be no conspiracy here since Fisher was acting alone. Nobody here suggested that the Lakers set this up with Fisher ahead of time.

For the Record, I am fully with elindholm on this. Derek Fisher was intellectually dishonest about his departure. If the Jazz had known he was considering the Lakers (a conference rival), they would have sought a pick or some type of compensation. However, many believed - including his former employers - that his teams of choice would either be the Knicks or the Nets, since that is where his daughter's doctor was at the time.

There was also a large portion of people that believed he might just sit out the year in NY or retire. I was shocked that he signed with LA and not a NY team. The Jazz have every right to boo him for that dishonesty. He isn't sacrificing a thing for his daughter right now. Not a thing. But a case can be made that he went from bench role player to starter... in order to 'care' for his daughter.

As far as Jazz fans making fun of his daughter - everyone knows that is one piece of crap fan, and he doesn't represent the 'majority of Utah fans' as the article speculated.

Best post yet.

Maybe I'm rotten, but is anyone else getting tired about hearing about his daughter's condition all the time? After the 50th time hearing about it from a commentator, it gets old and to the point I say "enough already!"

Do you or elindholm have any credible sources that confer that he mislead them? I have never read that anywhere except from laker haters. As it has been argued here, he was taking a huge paycut. I dont know about you guys. But id much rather work at Microsoft as a 2nd tier manager for 10 mil over Apple as a first tier manager for 5. At this stage in his career you think he would rather play for a team that was slotted for a 8th seed at best over a team that went to the western conference finals just because he could be a starter? Makes no sense to me. Well, it would if i knew Stern and the NBA were going to intercede and promote favorable trades for the team and assure them a path to the finals with their bias refs. Same ole BS from you guys! Next it will be that Fisher and the Jazz ownership were in cahoots the whole time just to beat down the Suns.

You haters.... just love to hate. One of the true good stories to come out of the NBA and you have twist it into yet another deceitful injustice. So if he took off a year and then signed with the lakers, thats ok? Again, I have never read where the owner of the Jazz felt he was duped into anything. He was a class act and made a decision based on a little girls health. Last i looked, all teams are rivals. So your telling me the ownership would have said no simply because its an in conference rival? Over 2 additional games? From their "2nd string guard"? If they were concerned over it, it would have been a clause in the agreement. They weren't and neither should any of you.

Keep on hating... it becomes you!
