The Redskins loss of Noble and Wilkinson makes them DESPERATE! and there is NO WAY our Bill Bidwill outbids Danny Snyder...I don't care what the Cap situation is Snider will find a way to get someone signed before we will.....I'd say this pretty much "seals the deal" for the Cards for this year. We have the best Defensive Line players we're going to get this year as of right now....If we sign anyone it will be a 2nd or 3rd tier player strictly for depth - not talent.

The Cards, as usual, have waited too long to strike while the iron is hot on DALTON -- the Broncos are shopping him and the Cards could have taken them up on it while no other team was really interested. Now the Redskins will most likely trade for him...the Cards front office is just too slow to react and it costs them time and time again. Sorry to be negative, but it's tiring being a Cards Fan....

Starting DT Noble out for season
By Joseph White, The Associated Press

ASHBURN, Va. — Defensive tackle Brandon
Noble is out for the season with a major knee injury, leaving the Washington
Redskins scrambling to fill a position that was already very thin. Noble tore
three ligaments in his left knee and dislocated the kneecap when three players
fell on him during a running play in the first quarter of Saturday night's 20-13
loss to the New England Patriots. (Related item: Redskins team report)

He faces one or two surgeries and a full year of rehabilitation on an injury that
could end his career.

"It's going to be a long, long road back — if it is even done," Noble said Sunday at Redskins Park.

Noble, a solid locker room leader, signed a four-year, $7 million deal, including a
$1.8 million bonus, leaving Dallas as a free agent during the offseason. He replaced inside force Daryl Gardener, whom the team decided not to re-sign.

The Redskins cut Dan Wilkinson, their other starting tackle from last year, on
the second day of training camp after he refused to accept a pay cut. Since
then, the team has been trying do put together a viable defensive line rotation
using a combination of players with modest experience.

The situation has upset 19-year veteran defensive end Bruce Smith, who campaigned for Wilkinson not to be released because he felt there wasn't a
viable alternative.

"We should have kept one of those two defensive tackles, either Gardener or Big Daddy," Smith said. "It's the reason we're in the situation we're in right nog.
The best decision for us is to go out and get Big Daddy or someone comparable because right now we're just a little short. We've got to stop this run. We've got to stop this run or it's going to be a long year."

Wilkinson, who has been courted by Detroit and Green Bay, is not expected back. One possible solution is Lional Dalton, who is being shopped by Denver for a possible trade.

Dalton started 13 games last season, helping the Broncos rank sixth in the NFL against the run, but Denver feels it has sufficient depth at the position and would like to deal Dalton for a draft pick.

Asked if the team will be adding someone soon, coach Steve Spurrier said: "We'll probably try to."

In Saturday's game, Jermaine Haley started next to Noble. Del Cowsette, Peppi Zellner and recently signed James Cannida all took turns at tackle after Noble was injured.

Further complicating matters, defensive lineman Bernard Jackson, expected to be a backup at the tackle and end positions, sprained his ankle in the game and could be out a month.

Also Sunday, Spurrier confirmed that Bryan Barker outperformed Brent Bartholomew in Saturday's punting duel. Bartholomew is expected to be cut,
with Barker competing with David Leaverton for the regular season job.

"It appears Bryan right now is our leader on that," Spurrier said. "We're hoping he's got his confidence back because he is an excellent punter. He's just got to do it in the games."

Spurrier said he was dissatisfied with his offense, which sputtered again with penalties, dropped passes, a costly turnover and a bad shotgun snap.

"Our offense is not performing well at all," Spurrier said. "It's the whole deal — it's quarterbacks, receivers, pass protectors, they
all got to go together. We don't have it all together right now."

MadBird - As you are praising Snyder and the Redskins for how they go after players did you notice that Bruce Smith is blasting them for not doing a good job of shoring up the DT position? Why did the foreskins have to cut Wilkinson? Well probably because Snyder was spending cap money like it was monopoly money. You can't have it both ways. Either Snyder is doing a great job, I don't think you will have too many people agreeing with that statement, or he keeps putting his team in cap trouble with his gambles.

The deadskins had what, 3 draft picks this year. They went FA crazy and again spent a ton of money and now are giving up draft picks as well. Yes they made some nice additions this offseason but at what cost. They are tight against the cap and have mortgaged their future because they are spending draft picks like they throw cap money around.

Dalton seems to have issues attitude wise. Either work ethic or he's lazy or just a knucklehead. Didn't the Cards just spend the last 2 years getting rid of players like this? I'm not saying the Cards shouldn't pick Wilkinson or Dalton up but I'm glad they are not rushing into a decision on these players.

Lastly, I think most of us realize that the Cards chances of making the playoffs this year are slim. Adding a DT isn't going to make the kind of difference to assure the Cards of a winning season. Expect a lot of growing pains with the passing game and a very young D that still needs to find its groove. Sometimes patience is needed and this will serve the Cards well just as the lack of patience keeps the Redskins from becoming a team capable of winning it all. JMHO.

I know we are hurting at DE the most...but we need depth accross the entire DL. Let's face it - even the DT are still unproven. You can say that the Cards are only interested in DE's...but what many are failing to realize is that if you strengthen your DT's the Ends can benefit. In other words, you can make the DE's you have BETTER by improving the interior of the Line....the Cards should have pushed harder for Wilkinson IMO.

"Deep Pockets" Snyder let Wilkinson go, to the Lions. Lets face it, pro-bowl players do not get cut in camp. The best anyone can do is get a servicable player.
