This. Steve Keim can blah blah blah about "retool, not rebuild", but the fact of the matter is that this isn't a situation where there's an NFL-quality starter at quarterback, and perhaps running back, and almost definitely at guard. While the defense may have been ready for prime time, that system is actually being retooled.
The goal for this season is putting out a product on the field that is going to be attractive to a fan base that has been completely beaten down over the last season. I have a difficult time remembering the last interesting offensive performance from this team, much less the last interesting HOME offensive performance.
If you go with Kevin Kolb, it sets the program back a year, because there's no one behind him.
If you go with a rookie, you probably set your program back a year, because there aren't any "special" players out here (honestly, if Brandon Weeden had come out this year, wouldn't he be in the same group as the rest of the QBs we're talking about?).
If you go with a veteran nobody like Drew Stanton, you're probably treading water as a program, because you're essentially submarining 2013 in the hope of building to something in 2014.
There just aren't good options.
