Is johnson even a player on this team? I have not heard his name this game or the previous ones.

Boldin over BOULDIN....spelling phonetically...my bad. However, back to the topic at hand, thats not too bad considering what we've been dealt

Starting Receivers

I've heard that Sullivan really likes Foster but he doesn't excite me. Although, I admit I've never seen him play but his size and speed doesn't leave a lot of room for improvement. Is he a starter by default (his experience)? I hope that soon Johnson moves into the starting role. Am I missing something about Foster?

He looked good last night, though I admit that I don't think he will be our starter for too long. Boldin will overtake one of the starters by at least midseason.

Didn't Johnson have a nice catch for some decent yardage from McCown that set up a touchdown? I could be nuts.

Let's not insult the guy! Don't call him BJ, I don't know if you would like to be insulted like that....;)

Anquan Boldin gets two nicknames so far: Quan (what the fans call him) and Q (what the team calls him).

So I propose calling him him bry-John. :D

I don't know, I though Foster looked pretty good out there. And, just a couple of weeks ago, when Blake was giving an interview, they asked which WRs he was jelling with. The only guy he talked about was Foster, and talked about him for about a minute saying what a playmaker he was and stuff.

Boldin showed an uncanny knack for knowing where the sticks were. Both catches, he made hellacious plays to get the first down. That's the stuff that can't be coached. Gilmore had a solid game as well.

I agree totally. I came away feeling better about our receivers, and I honestly think they might out perform what the pundits predictions.

Foster is a possession receiver. Dave Pasch pointed out he has good footwork. Foster is nt a burner but he will make the catch. Also, on Smiths TD run, there was Foster helping to clear out a defender. One can not emphasize enough how important it is for receivers to throw blocks. Foster is not spectacular, but he is solid.

After seeing all three in action, I like Gilmore as the split end, Foster as the Flanker, and Boldin coming out of the slot. That will be fine until B. Johnson's ready to take Foster's job (probably the last quarter of the season).

I know that I've said it before, but Boldin is best used in the middle of the field, where he can work against LBs and safeties, and find creases in zones and coverages. I think that you limit his ability when you put him on the outside and trust him to beat someone on the edge. He's just not that fast, or really that strong, to be able to beat players like Mike Rumph or Andre Wollfolk.

But he has the savvy and toughness to punk guys like Woolfork or Rumph. :D
