Still, even if you just look at results, 5-6 is the best we've been after 11 games in a loooong time.

McGinnis inherited a QB with no brain and won 7 games his first year - much like we're probably going to do this year. Tobin - now there's a guy who REALLY inherited no talent - Kent Graham/Boomer at QB? Leshon Johnson/Leerand McElroy at RB? An offensive line that was gutted by Buddy Ryan? A defense with Aeneas Williams and... that's about it. Now THAT 7-9 coaching job was a GREAT coaching job.

At this point, the juries still out on Whiz - there's been good and bad, but an incredibly cupcake schedule for the most part. The fact that we've lost twice too the Niners and once to a Panthers team that save our game has lost 6 games in a row is a BIG knock on Whiz at this point. Beating the Steelers and the Hags are plusses... like I said, jury's still out.

That's a fair assessment. I tend to give a pass on the Panthers loss due to Rattay playing after Warner's gumby impression early in the 1st quarter. And dammit, if Racker's weren't such a choking hooker we'd probably be calling Whiz a mastermind right now.

a home game against a team that had lost 8 games in a row and hadn't scored 30 points combined in it's last 4 games or more than 17 points all year (except against us in Game 1) should have never come down to a kicker having to make an OT FG with the game tied at 31.

I agree, but stuff happens. Every team has their moments. Do you really fault Whis for this performance? I guess you can blame him for signing Barr. I think I'm the only one here giving SF any credit at all - they played about as good as they are capable of and we we're mediocre at best. Gore was a train. We lost the turnover battle 4-0 and were still in position to win.

ultimately, yes. The clock management was ATROCIOUS all game. When we had to take two TOs in the third quarter, I was furious, turning to my Dad, telling him you KNOW we're going to need those in the middle of a close game that felt like it was going to go down to the wire. There MUTLIPLE atrocious coaching decisions and the penalties were unfathomable... again. Ultimately, the buck stops with the coach and when you come out in a game that big against a team that bad at home and have several plays that DIRECTLY come back to the coach, hell yeah, I put it on the coach's shoulders.

I'm not gonna give credit to a Niners team that looked like they didn't belong in the league for the last 8 weeks. This game was all on us, period.

Whis is alright in my book. This year he gets his semi free pass. He had/has us in playoff contention all the way into December which as Cardinal fans should make us ecstatic.

1. He has had to contend with losing one starting DE for the entire year (Chike)

2. He lost his franchise QB 4 games into the year(even if he wasnt playing the best) and had his back-up tear out his arm ligaments and have to play with a high school coach that had to be on the team about 72 hours for an entire NFL game. Then his back-up has had to man up and play without truly being fully functional physically for the remiander of the year.

3. He had to deal with losin Anquan Boldin for 3 games and play the rest of the year with him at about 80% which for whatever reason has made him play S-T-U-P-I-D as well as hurt.

4. He has had to play with Adrian Wilson gimpy or just plain out for a large % of games.

5. He has now lost one of his starting CB's for basically more than a 1/3 of the season.

6. He lost Bertrand Berry for 1/2 the year. Granted he was playing the best either but depth becomes an issue and these guys on D are getting tired IMO.

7. He lost his starting #1 draft pick at RT who was playing VERY well at the time of injury and came back not as stellar. Makes you wonder if his injury is lingering too.

8. He is a rookie coach and is bound to make mistakes. He ABSOLUTELY has things that he needs to work on. But his pressers and straightforwardness are a true breath of fresh air around here IMO.

Im not using thse injuries as an excuse per say since that is football and everyone has to deal with them. BUt that is a lot to overcome IMO on the Defensive side of the ball especially for a rookie coach. He has gopt to find a way to keep these players from comitting stupid penalties. If that means cutting Pope and others then so be it.

Uh, yeah, he was horrible. I hated the hire at the time, and his second season was my only serious attempt to quit this team.

I guess maybe you misunderstood me? I meant Ryan inherited a pretty damn good offense, which he then ruined.

I figured the Niners game was NOT going to be a blowout, just because they would have confidence in playing us. The problem I have with the game is not the loss, as much as the fact that we made ALL of the mental errors. Both players and coaches.

Dennis Green and Tobin would've been roasted for a game like that in their first year. McGinnis would've gotten off pretty lightly, just like some are willing to do with Whisenhunt. Me, I don't care to make him out to be a scapegoat, I just want more W's than L's. I don't care what the circumstances are.

The Cardinals won more games in the 3 years immediately following Ryan's departure than in any other 3 year period since they moved to Arizona.
The 21 wins included the franchise's only playoff victory in 50 years.

Injuries to key players, contract mismanagement by the front office, a very poor coaching hire and pitiful drafts are what have ruined the last 10 years for the Cardinals.

And of course there's the curse.

As far as the rest of this season...I won't be fooled again. Maybe we win the Atlanta game, but that's the only one I have enough confidence in to think we can--and after Sunday, my confidence doesn't mean much.

I say we shut it down and try to position ourselves for McFadden. Frankly, even if we do just qualify for the playoffs, we'll probably get murdered by the Cowboys AND have a crappy draft pick. Pick your misery...

If I knew for a fact we would get McFadden, I'd be all for shutting it down. However, likely we'll win a game or so and McBadass will be drafted one spot in front of us. And we will have never even thought of trading up to get him.

Whiz is going to be a great coach. This is his first year as ahead coach. It's his first year with the players that were here , with some exceptions. We are 5-6. We are still talking playoffs, even though I think it will be hard for this team to get there. We have good players to build around, unfortunatly AW , Q and Dansby are playing or waching hurt. Our statring QB has been out. The guy who took his place is playing great excpet he is hurt and can't hold on to the ball when he is healthy. THe key point is that this season has been exciting and Whiz will take us to the promised land.

The good news you don't have to pay for a playoff game you wont see, unless a miracle happens.

I refuse to call a coach that has his team as the most penalized team in the league, "best coach since Coryell". Wiz's coached team is by far worse in that category compared to any of the other bad penalized years under Green, and it isnt even close which is even mroe sad.

Penalties equal an undisciplined team.

I just realized the team is on pace to be penalized for over 1,100 yards!
They have over 200 more penalty yards than the 6th most penalized team, the Ravens.

That's ridiculous.

Shane, I agree on the pressers. He comes across as being very honest (as much as he can) about how and why he makes the decisions he does. I also like the way he takes the blame for things rather than throwing his players under the bus. I think the staff he has assembled is probably one of the best we've ever had.

OK, now that I've shouted the virtues of Whiz let me outline some of the things that bother me. I still have a MAJOR problem with the penalties. We are NOT playing smart or discplined and I'm not seeing much improvement. We seem to have a problem with getting the plays in on time. I wonder how much of the success that Warner had early on was due to the fact that HE (Warner) was calling the plays ? And lastly, Whiz seems to default to exSteeler players a lot (Barr and others I don't remember) when looking at Free Agents, I guess that's natural and they're people he has some history with but geeeeeeze.

OK, that's it. With AW and Green out it doesn't look real good for the rest of the season, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
