Plot Summary: The globe-spanning conflict between otherworldly monsters of mass destruction and the human-piloted super-machines built to vanquish them was only a prelude to the all-out assault on humanity in "Pacific Rim Uprising."

John Boyega ("Star Wars: The Force Awakens") stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity's victory against the monstrous "Kaiju." Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father's legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)—who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.

Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert ("The Fate of the Furious'" Scott Eastwood) and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara (newcomer Cailee Spaeny), as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale.

Looks soooo bad compared to the first one. Trailers are supposed to garner interest in a movie, but when the trailer's full of "What do we do? We fight!" kind of limp dialogue, you know the movie's in trouble.

Who would be watching this movie for dialog?? This is full on a popcorn flick to watch monsters fight and destroy stuff.

I agree... been waiting for this one and the trailer was so damned disappointing.

When you watch a trailer, wince, and think nothing but "Michael Bay EXPLOSION!", it ain't a good sign. The first one proved that you can have, you know, an actual story with all the feels on top of monsters fighting and destroying stuff.

dude... the first one's script was as paint by numbers as they come. I mean, I LOVE Edris Elba, but even he couldn't raise what should have been a rousing speech at the end above a major ball of meh.

Maybe it was his quality I'm remembering, then. I sure as hell don't see a reason to see this one.

Don’t get me wrong... I don’t either. Just saying the script for the last one was painfully mediocre as well.

okay! Well,... now that they are in the black. Anything can happen!

Yep, they are even now as it cost $150 million to make and they already made $150 million foreign/domestic in their first weekend.

my favorite part of that script was towards the end...when edris and the aussie kid were heading to their yeager... the aussie dad calls out to him and says, "thats my son you have there. My son!"
for some reason that makes me cry every time I see it, lol. The undertones and all the words unsaid make that statement impactful.

The thing I didn't get at the end of the first one is his son just died but seemed to not be effected by it the rest of the movie. He was excited about the main kid surviving. If my son just died, I would careless if some other dude survived or not.

yeah... I think he suppressed the loss of his son but was also celebrating the saving of the world... the rift closing. It was a big deal and they were out of yeagers...and his son was a part of that world saving mission.
celebrate in public but mourn in private

Saw it this weekend. The kid and I watched the first one first and he loved the second one better, but he is 9 and likes explosions. The first is so much better. Honestly, had it not been for the big budget CGI, this could have been a straight to video with the plot. There is a fun twist in it, actually a couple all around the same character. That made it worth the price of admission.

This should have been straight to video. The plot twist you're referencing, if it's the one I'm thinking of, is stupidly silly.

I just can't stand Charlie Day. I'd rather listen to finger nails on a chalk board than watch him in a movie.

Yeah, that was the one. I found it fun, but I agree with the voice part.
