Padres to sign Garland for $5.3M, 1 year (AP)

People familiar with the negotiations say free agent right-hander Jon Garland and the San Diego Padres have agreed to a $5.3 million, one-year contract. The three people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the agreement had not been announced. Garland was 11-13 with a 4.01 ERA last year with Arizona and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
