Josh Jones - Who was good at LT and can't see why he wouldn't be good at LG
Froholdt
Hernandez
Johnson

Is a solid O line. Overall talent wise (on paper) I can't think of a better recent O line. And 4 of them are 27 or under. Something we haven't had in forever.

I'm not too fussed about Froholdt. It's somewhere we need to look at down the line if he doesn't work out but he knows the scheme which is a big advantage and C plays uncovered half the time anyway. I'm certainly not worried about "Kyler getting killed".

Between Sendlein are rare Hudson appearances we roled out plenty of mediocre centres and won games.

since we are baselining this year for rebuilding, I would trade Hump and start josh at LT. Unless we are serious about the run game which based on current lineup we are not.

I thought the same, and then I looked at the rework they did on his deal and it's really tough to move him. We would actually eat $12m in extra dead cap this year.

He's pretty unmovable for 2 more seasons.

Got a ringing endorsement from Humphries for his training camp work. Johnson spent time at both tackle slots and I’m hearing he will be the RT starter.
It's crazy seeing the pics of him on the field next to Humphries. He's much longer than Humphries and can probably put on 10-15 more good weight and still be athletic.

Josh Jones is like the offensive equivalent of Rashard Lawrence. Dude has done nothing and people talk like he is some sort of known commodity.

Not quite.

Believe me Chopper when I say I'm no fan of Jones. I thought he was cover-your-eyes bad when we tried him at RT and RG.

But last year he filled in at LT for, what, six or seven full games? And even I grudgingly admit that he did okay there. It was kind of shocking actually.

Maybe trade him for a center? :) Or I guess it maybe makes sense to try him at LG if we're using 2023 to sort things out. I still doubt he's a long term solution to any starting oline spot, but perhaps he'll prove me wrong.

i get the vibe, but he has been better than Lawrence and far more available

Josh is a serviceable to good tackle -- a good third tackle to have on the roster

People talk like this but he was helped constantly on the left side. Actual pro guards rarely struggle at tackle like he did.

Moving the chains on Sirius are currently ranking olines for every team. The point system has LT 1 to 5, RT and OG 1 to 3 and OC 1 to 4. They haven't gotten to the Cards yet.

Main point is that they have the OC as the 2nd most important position on the Oline. Just reinforcing your point that having a quality center is very important.

I bet they score the Cards an 8. Lemme know how close I am.

LT 3, RT 2, LG 1, RG 1, C 1

Solid O-Line is hilarious.

Outside of Hump, no one here has proven to be consistently “solid” for more than a season.

“We shouldn’t upgrade at a position because we won regular season games before. To hell with upgrading talent/quality to the team”.

How this got multiple likes is even more hilarious.

Man this is a myth like Bigfoot around here. I was watching some late season clips just a few weeks ago and I noted Jones was consistently on an island in the game I was watching.

That was my take as well. He struggled early on, on an island but then afterwards got some help.

Being better than Billy Price, Rashaad Coward, and Max Garcia is not an endorsement. That is what Josh Jones was late last season. The guy who held up longer than career backup NFL players he happened to be starting next to. None of those players are on a NFL roster right now. He didn't get help because none of the players around him were good enough to do so.

Better than bad does not equal good. Josh Jones has shown nothing other than he can't beat out Kelvin Beachum to play RT, he can't play OG in the NFL, and he is better than the Max Garcia, Billy Price, and Rashaad Coward's of the NFL.

Josh is a backup offensive tackle. He is not good. He is better than out of the league type players. Both he and Lawrence replacement level to below-replacement level production at best.
