ESPN featured the Cardinals' war room this evening -

They raised three drafting options; each involving a QB and a LT.

1. Sign Long and draft Geno at #7.

2. Draft Lane Johnson at #7 and draft a QB (they mentioned Glennon) at #38

3. Draft Geno at 7 and Armstead at 38

They also raised the possibility of drafting Montee Ball to augment Beanie and Ryan W and pointed out the need to sign one or two safeties and Toler.

I could live with Door #1 (Long and Geno).

Was the whole segment on the Cards? Looks like it's on again at 8 az time. I don't think those guys understand our cap situation.

No. Just 5 - 10 minutes. Consider that, each time we cut someone, our cap situation tends to improve. We saved $3 mil by cutting A-Dub. It might not seem like much, but a miilion here/a million there begins to add up.

Hey Schmo - What's our cap balance now? What does Long's asking price/value figure to be? How much more cap money would we need to fit in Long? What would our most realistic moves be for accomplishing this?

We're about 8.8m under the cap right now but that's still with Kolb under contract. Not sure what Long's value is since he wasn't healthy last season.

Long wants $11M per season. Not going to happen in AZ (IMO)

We are about $6+M under the CAP considering the Hoyer tender, I believe.

PS: Florio speculates the Cards are waiting on the release of Carson Palmer.

Actually it was Barkley they mentioned. Both ideas are bad, especially paired with a 1st round pick of Lane Johnson makes it even worse.

BTW, did you see Greg Cosell's scathing, yet accurate, review on Barkley? He had him as a 4th round talent and that he really doesn't do anything well that is required to be a NFL QB. He said, of Barkley, not good footwork, average arm, not good size, not good at read progressions, and for his other flaws, not accurate enough to overcome those flaws. He said Barkley would have to put the ball on the numbers almost every throw and couldn't do that in college.

Say hello to your new Cardinals QB :D.

I've been pimping Scott. The guy has the intangibles, has accuracy, and can throw and run. I would absolutely take him over any other QB in the draft. Yes that's what I said. Arians can take him and mold him into the NFL qb he wants.
Would it be fair to compare him to a one-inch taller Russell Wilson?
