Patrick Peterson’s mentoring helped Tyrann Mathieu...read-more

Shortly after the end of the Cardinals’ season Mathieu moved into Peterson’s home in Arizona to work out with a group of professional players. But Peterson had one message for the player who let so many people at LSU down.

“There’s nothing more I can teach him about being a football player,” Peterson said. “It’s about teaching him to be a young professional.

“Just making sure he understands he has one more strike. Just being more intelligent, being a smarter man, understand the situations, understand your surroundings around you, just being on top of your game that much more than you were prior to your situation, meaning getting kicked off the football team.”
Here is a link to the complete story.

Great article. Wouldn't mind drafting him in the 5th or one of our 6th. Wouldn't use a 4th.

I've always liked him. People make mistakes think back to your college days if you went. I really don't consider weed that big of a deal. Wow a kid in college was smoking some weed shocking now he should of had more sense than he showed but that's the past. He's a freak athlete with a knack for the big plays. Not afraid to tackle and actually wraps up really well.

His biggest knock is he's small he is 5'8. A little small but Bob Sanders was 5'8 and he was the NFL DPOY not to long ago. Tim Jennings led the the league in interceptions last year and he's also 5'8. While it's not "ideal size" there have been plenty of guys his height to play and contribute. I would love to see the cardinals take him in round 3 or 4 if he's still on the board. I would move him to safety and let him ball hawk like Sanders

His highlight film just looks unreal. Like everybody else is in slow motion

I've never understood this kind of thinking and I've seen it here a lot. You want to smoke pot, that's your choice. But, when you are looking at a chance to set yourself up for life and one of the sure-fire ways to derail that future involves smoking pot, well, I think it says a lot about that person. I don't worry about the fact he smoked pot, I worry about the fact he couldn't discipline himself well enough to not smoke pot.

Living outside of Baton Rouge I have seen a lot of the honey badger the past few years....the Cardinals drafting him would not tickle me too much....very good chance they could get him as an UDFA ....however, if they wanted to use a 6th on him I wouldnt mind.

I wouldn't complain if we drafted him. I wouldn't take him until 4th round or later but the kid has some talent.

Well said! But everybody makes mistakes. His cost him millions of dollars right out of the gate. If available I would still use a 4th rd pick or later on him.

“When you watch the tape, the ball just finds its way into his hands whether it’s interceptions, fumble recoveries, punt returns,” Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said. “The guy is a dynamic athlete.”
Seems like Kiem sees some talent in him.

I'm really impressed with this kid. And by that I mean Patrick Peterson.

I would say more players in the NFL and NBA smoke weed than don't. Listen was it stupid of him yes but in reality it's not that big of a deal to me, I was more concerned with Michal Floyd's drinking coming out of college

I'm impressed with Patrick Peterson, as well. With Josh Weinfuss? Maybe not so much.

Mathieu committed to LSU the summer before his senior season in high school. He wasn't even academically eligible to go to college at that point. The reason why he hadn't been heavily recruited by major programs to that point was because he had an entire football season left to play and be recruited.

That story about Les Miles showing up on his doorstep is probably bogus, considering that Mathieu committed to the Tigers following a summer football camp.

5'8 is way too short. NFL WR will own him

Think mike Adams ...all u gotta do is toss it high.

Just say no

Adams looked like a shrink out there and was a waste as a cb...yea I remember the greenbay playoff game ...but one play good for 70 bad .

I pass again and again in him

Could care less regarding the weed...it's height

Short + No Talent = Mike Adams
Short + Talent = Antoine Winfield

I think Mathieu would be more of an Antoine Winfield type.

4th round or later is good for me. He has size limitations, but he has great football instincts and makes plays when given the opportunity.

I have never seen Mathieu hit like Winfield so I'm not sure of that comparison. I see more of a Deangelo Hall, but maybe not as fast.

He would be one hell of a nickel back :)

The interesting thing about Honey Badger in the nickel is that you can match him up in the slot versus quick receiver types like Wes Welker or you can play him at safety to help over the top. As Steve Keim said, no matter where he is on the field he seems to find a way to get to the ball.

True, but comparing Mathieu to Mike Adams is pretty bad lol

Mathieu will be just fine in the NFL imo
