We'll drive up early to make sure we have parking, the lot we be filled with obnoxious jerkoffs rooting for the wrong team.
Do you always talk like that? I assume you are referring to the Cardinal fans.

The advantage is probably non-existent to come down a day early. I think it is smart but it doesn't provide NE an advantage they don't already have over the Cards. As long as the Pats don't obsess about the heat (what the Packers seemed to do last year), the heat wears down the players pretty equally assuming the Pats hydrate properly.

The Pats have a least one player on their roster who can speak of the heat and that is Bruschi. His knowledge will be helpful.

The only way the heat becomes a factor is if the Patriots allow the Cards to stay close into the 4th quarter. At that point, the heat suddenly is a factor...and with Green coaching I am thinking it could be close heading into the 4th quarter.

Sorry, but I disagree. There is nothing worse than getting off an airplane , walking out into 100 plus heat and then having to play the next morning.

Two days of getting used to it will unquestionably be a benefit, not to mention recovering from jet lag.
It could help get them mentally used to it, but if they aren't very carefull, it could also dehydrate them very quickly.

The old saying, "but it's a dry heat" is very true, but also very misleading. You lose a lot of water without even knowing it because the sweat evaporates right away. You don't necissarily get soaked in sweat like you do on the east coast--you don't realize how much fluid you're using.

Anyway, if they're smart (and I think they are) they've already explained this--and will stay on their guys to drink water CONSTANTLY for the next few days, especially after they arrive.

Packers game last year?
Something had to be a factor for us at home--we played at lot better at SDS than we did on the road--maybe it was the heat.

I remember the Pack coming here a couple years back and just pounding us in heat in excess of 100. I seem to remember it happening last year too against Seattle.

I just dont see it affectiong other teams as bad as people claim.

Who was the idiot coach that had there team drinking pickle juice one year claiming that it helped with dehydration????

Its not gonna be that hot. The morning news said saturday it should be 99 degrees, and cooler than that sunday.

There is an actual physiological process the body goes through to make it more capable of handling exercise in the heat. It takes about a week or so of practice in it to get there. The Cardinals have played two preseason games in the heat, and have had 3 or 4 weeks of practice in it, so they are there.

The difference in acclimation is proven, as every year visiting teams end up putting a player or two on IV's at halftime or on the flight home. The Cardinals havent had to do that in at least 10 years.

While the Cardinals will have the heat advantage, it will only be a significant issue if it is a close game in the second half.

Going east to west for the distance involved, jet lag isnt an issue. For the Pats, game time is 4pm east coast time, and thats not a big deal. Its really more of an issue for west coast teams going to the east, and having to play a game at (what is for them) 10 am in the morning.

I think it was the eagles, and there's some science to it. It has something to do with replacing the body's salt at the same time as the liquid (you lose both when you sweat).

Like I said in the earlier post Shane, almost every year our worst home performances are in the hot games. Last year's Packers game was an exception, not a rule. I mean we've played just flat out awful in the heat most of the time. There's a long list of fiascos, including a game against the Falcons a couple of years ago when a bad team with a nobody RB just crushed us and the guy had like 200 yds.

And, that was the Eagles who drank pickle juice.

Yea thats what I thought. I remember the Falcon game now. Thats the one Jamal Anderson blew his other ACL while making a cut. Some nobody came in and ran all over us. They were wearing the full black unis too.

I dont know why we keep claiming this as an advantage? Just never seems to work out that way.

Thanks aj!

It could be an advantage if the Cardinals had the talent to go along with the heat. Unfortunately, for them, they dont have the talent, or the depth, and in most cases a team with better depth and talent will overcome the heat problem.

It still comes down to what you do ON the field for three hours, nothing else, and talent , for the most part, wins out.

Re: pickle juice/salt/electrolytes - isn't that what Gatorade's supposed to do?

The heat may be a small advantage for the Cardinals, but they have a lot of ground to make up against a team like the Pats - I can't see it being the deciding factor. If the Cards limit their turnovers and limit the Pats offense to under 21 pts, I think they could win with the help of a big play or two. But honestly, we'll just have to wait until kickoff. Who figured the Panthers would get pounded at home like they did? Certainly not everyone.

I did. I don't think the Panthers or.... drumroll..... the Chiefs will even make the playoffs.

They can feel free to visit the Valley, rent some cars, book some hotel rooms and play some golf in January though.

It was a KC game, the D-Line started breaking down and was fatigued by the 4th. The O-line was throwing there asses around, I think this was 2001.

That was Maurice Smith, that game was pathetic, I think the guy plays FB now.

I played in a baseball game the day it hit 122 back in 1990 or 1991. I can't remember which year now.

Every half inning after running in from the field we would fill our caps with water and then put them on.

Worst day to play a game ever.

I keep thinking of moving back to Phoenix and then thoughts like that come back. And getting in your car and having your hand melt into the seat belt buckle. Good times.

Pats will be toasted

Literally.

There's no way that they can prepare for this oven. Cards will eat them for lunch with this advantage.

On top of that Bill B is scrambling to find game tape of the Cards (while being coached by Green). With just a few pre-season games and one regular season game they have very little to go on and will totally be caught by surprise while Green has plenty of game tape to review of theirs. Its almost not fair!!!

Cards are gonna trounce the FORMER champs!

If we could play 10 games at home in September its scary to think what our record would be! That's right, perfect!!!

This is the philosophy I dont get

The heat as almost never been an advantage to us. Why should this game against a SB Champ and superior talented team be any different?

The pickle juice thing for the Eagles was for a game against the Cowboys. The theory is the high salt content of the juice makes your body retain water. Virtually all experts discredit this approach.

THe heat advantage is a real one, but is one at the margin -- meaning it doesnt show up until late in a game. All NFL teams are well conditioned enough that there is probably no difference for the first 45 mins of the game.

The only way to capitalize is for Cards to be ahead or within one score in the fourth quarter.

No kidding. It was like 104 at kickoff the year Atlanta killed us at SDS.

The heat can be to our benefit if the game is close, like the Packers last year. It won't really effect the Pats until the second half and if they have already laid the wood on us it won't matter.
