The New England Patriots are signing former New York Jets offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer to a one-year deal, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Schweitzer began his career with the Atlanta Falcons in 2016. He was drafted by the organization in the sixth round and played for the team until 2019. He also spent time at the Washington Commanders before signing with the Jets in 2023.
Schweitzer is a versatile offensive lineman with experience playing at both guard and center. That means he could be in the mix to compete for reps at center after the Patriots released longtime captain David Andrews on Thursday.
The offensive line was one of the biggest trouble spots for the Patriots last season, and they have made efforts to improve their depth by signing Schweitzer and veteran tackle Morgan Moses.
However, there's still plenty of work to do to fortify the struggling unit and give quarterback Drake Maye a fighting chance.
