The New England Patriots have reportedly made the decision to match the Las Vegas Raiders offer sheet for restricted free agent linebacker Christian Elliss, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.
That means Elliss will return to New England on a two-year deal.
If the Patriots refused to match the Raiders' offer sheet, they would have lost Elliss to Las Vegas, and they wouldn't have been compensated with a draft pick due to the level he was tendered at in free agency.
The 2024 season was a major step back defensively for the Patriots, but Elliss was one of the surprise standouts for the unit. He went from being predominantly a special teams player to contributing on nearly 50 percent of the defensive snaps.
The former undrafted linebacker finished the season with 80 tackles, 1.5 sacks, five pass deflections, one forced fumble and one interception.
He'll be returning to a completely revamped linebacker unit in New England with multiple new additions, including Harold Landry III, Robert Spillane, K'Lavon Chaisson and Jack Gibbens.
