I don't value 2nd picks as much as most people but I wouldn't give one up for Mallet. First, they played in the same college system and Wilson was better so why not just draft Wilson? Second, the guy hasn't played in 2 years. I don't think any player gets better by sitting the bench for 2 years. We'd still have no idea whether or not Mallet could play in the NFL.

I'd do this and here's why.

I remember a tweet (I believe from Jurecki) saying that the Cardinals were going to take a QB in one of the first two rounds. I believe that what's likely to happen this year is the rich get richer and around picks 24+, we're going to see teams that need QB's start jumping back into the end of the first round to take a QB. At that point, it may be better to trade a 2nd straight up for Mallett rather than trade our 2nd + other picks to move into the first.

The best scenerio is if we can get him for a 3rd. I wouldn't be completely opposed to a 3rd and our later 6th for Mallett and one of their 7th rounders (they have 2).

I think its more about getting value from Mallett before he comes to the end of his rookie deal. As always, caveat emptor.

This ^^^^

I am open to anything that improves this team.

NO......tired of other teams hand me downs. They obviously don't see him as any answer to taking over for Brady one day. Just think about it. Same with Kolb, there is a ***** in the armor.

Why can't we do what all the other champions do, evaluate and find our own guy through the draft one year, even if we have to trade a bundle to move up and get him. Until then, I would rather waste a pick on Geno than on someone another coach has decided doesn't have it.

This, because I'm also sick and tired of taking another team's projects or has beens or never beens. We struck gold with Warner and that is very very very rare and by no means the way one expects to solve the postition. Our coach, our front office, selects THERE guy in the draft and give up NOTHING in the draft to do so. That is what a championship team traditionally does

The upside with Mallett is that you don't have to pay him for at least another season. He's two years into a third-round rookie deal, which means you'll have to pay him less than a million dollars a year.

Contra Snakester, the Cards can't have him in and "work him out," because players can't meet with coaches until May under the CBA, and New England has no incentive to possibly let the kid fall on his face and hurt his value in a private workout.

I don't know for sure that Mallett would be the top prospect in this draft; I think that with a career 25% completion percentage, Mallett would be right in the middle of all the guys that we're talking about, and maybe not ahead of Barkley or Geno Smith.

Career? 1/4. 17 yard comp average!

Purely a result of scouring imperfect memory-cells, but I think it was a combination of:

- Cannon arm but inconsistent mechanics and accuracy and possibly a long, slow release.

- "intangibles" - could be merely the inability to read defenses.

That's my recollection.

it was drug rumors, he even talked about it with teams at the combine, some found his answers ok, some didn't.

When Mallett transferred from Michigan one of the teams he was considerign was UCLA. I remember hearing after he picked Arkansas that UCLA had probably dodged a bullet because putting a kid with his party lifestyle in a city like LA would have been a nightmare.

No idea if he's still like that or not but he apparently admitted drug use to NFL teams.

Arians likes canon arms... Would you rather trade #38 for Mallett (who has reportedly matured under Brady) or draft a QB in the 2nd?

I will say this for Mallet he has one of he strongest arms you will ever see. He and 3 of his college receivers were drafted rather early in the draft. He was player of the week several times in the SEC but with those receivers he had all he had to do was put it where they could just touch it. Not mobile at all but at 6'6" will stand in and take the hits. He certainly does have potential but how much is the big question.

OK, John - Decision time:

Mallet? Or Tyler Wilson?

If Tyler Wilson is available in the 2nd Round Cards need to sprint to the podium and pick him. He's the Arkansas QB that should be picked instead of giving up something for Mallet.
Wilson seemed to make the players around him better. I don't recall Mallet doing that.

Most Arkansas fans think Wilson was better than Mallet. I would not mind taking Wilson at #2 at all. In any event we need to take a QB either at 1 or 2. The need is much to great. So much so it overrides BPA.

The QB we should keep an eye on is the one that the Cards never mention. You can be sure that GMs are jockeying to get the QB they really want. I think at least 2 QBs go in round 1.

Given the choice of Mallet or Wilson I have to go with Wilson. One of the major reasons is we do not have to give up anything for him. I have no idea what Mallet would cost us but he does have a couple of years in the NFL of mostly watching. I think Wilson is smarter but does not have the canon arm. Wilson's arm is certainly strong enough and he is a bit more mobile and will also stand in until the last second to get the ball off. Yep, I go with Wilson and I watched most all of the games both played in the SEC.

This makes a ton of sense, Moe.
