Pau Gasol won't be ready for Blazer opener, Hassan Whiteside says he'll play

Then Portland center Hassan Whiteside sprained his left ankle Thursday night in an exhibition game at Denver and was held out of contact at Saturday's practice. He did go through shooting drills and Coach Terry Stotts said the team would be preparing for the opener as if Whiteside will be in the lineup, "But our preparation will be the same, with him or without him." Whiteside said Saturday he plans to play Wednesday.
