Dalbrin you might want to educate yourself a bit before you start proclaiming what problems cannot be dealt with. Do you even know that the Suns training staff is acknowledged to be the best in the NBA and by a considerable margin? A thumbs up from them is a very good sign.

Some years ago one of the Suns staff wrote an article explaining their methods. In this article he explained that many problems that show up in bones (and ligaments) are actually muscular in origin. They have a whole battery of tests they put the players through - even before problems show up - to determine which muscles need to be strengthened and which may be overdeveloped. They devise sets of exercises for the players which restores the balance among the various muscles involved and increases overall strength.

Dalbrin, who were you hoping they would have got at #5? Not trying to pile on, but sincerely want to know your choice before I respectfully rebut your post.

And a question for everyone...

If Len becomes Zydrunas Ilgauskas (the first comparison I see when looking at Len right now), would you all consider it a successful pick?

Depends on how McM and Noel turn out ;)

In this draft? I can't see how you COULDN'T consider it a successful pick.

I'm quite aware of the Suns' medical staff's reputation. I just don't see how they're going to fix a problem that lays in the man's bones not being strong enough to take the weight of all of that running and jumping. I'm just stating my opinion, and giving my prediction. I'm not claiming to be better then the medical staff. Besides, if McD has been writing his and Len's initials inside a heart in his notebook for the last three years, then it's not beyond belief that, upon hearing the medical staff say this issue might be a problem, he decided to take the risk anyway. It's not been said that much, but big men don't grow on trees.

If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I'll admit it and eat my crow with a nice big grin on my face, because we really will have a decent young center with the potential to be a good young center. Until then, I'm going to remain extremely skeptical.

Jay

I probably would have taken McLemore. Noel's knee scares me as much as Len's weak bones. He has the potential to be a Rasheed Wallace type of defensive presence, but the knee is a concern.

Ilgauskas played five games in his first three seasons.

Foot and ankle problems.

He also missed half the 2000 season.

He was a good center when he was healthy, and if Len turns out like him, in this draft, I'd probably be happy, depending on just how much time he misses. That is, unless McLemore turns into a superstar. ;)

I'm not sure about this but I always thought that was the result of the back problems he had early in his career.

Steve

Maybe, maybe not. All I known is Majerle had one of the most rounded games I have seen until he fell in love with the 3 point shot.

As I recall Ilgauskas, I remember him being somewhat slow and lumbering. Anyway this is my memory. He had a quality career. However, I never thought Len reminded me of Ilgauskas. Len strikes me as being more mobile.

Here are Ilgauskas career stats.

Every big man has these problems. All of them. Humans weren't meant to be 7-foot tall. It stresses the skeletal structure and the heart. The cyclic management methods for stress fractures are common, well-known. The Suns staff is just better at management of it.
