Los Angeles Lakers: The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the Lakers are in the process of extending general manager Mitch Kupchak's contract another four seasons. The new deal is expected to take place as soon as owner Jerry Buss returns from vacation. Head coach Phil Jackson is also expected to extend his contract, which will then turn the attention of the organization toward re-signing Shaquille O'Neal in October. Earlier in the year, both the Portland Trail Blazers and Washington Wizards were denied permission by the organization to talk to Kupchak about moving to their franchise.

Philadelphia 76ers: Glenn Robinson has at least one person in his fan club in Philadelphia and may just be the most important. "He's just better than any No. 2 scorer that we've had," Iverson said in the Philadelphia Daily News. "He's consistent. He's averaged 20 points a game over nine seasons. He's a good basketball player. Of all the others, and they were guys I liked, he's just a better player. Who knows how well it's going to work, adding Glenn and Marc Jackson? That remains to be seen. We don't really know what's going to happen, but I'm excited about it, just like I was with those guys. But I'm more excited with this situation. He's better, a lot better, than those guys. Making that trade, especially also getting Jackson and re-signing Derrick, makes our team 100 percent better."

Armstrong

New Orleans Hornets: Formal felony charges have been filed against Hornet point guard Darrell Armstrong. Formerly of the Orlando Magic, Armstrong stands accused of assaulting a female police officer outside of an Orlando nightclub. "This is an unfortunate situation, but we're absolutely going to vigorously fight these charges," Armstrong's Orlando-based attorney, Zachary Stoumbos, told the Times-Picayune. "He is a responsible father of three who never had a lick of criminal problems."
