We needed power in the minors, Allen provides that. Nice OBP too.

And yes, Davis should be next hopefully for some future rotation and bullpen help.

I hate to gut our decent rotation, but why not try and get value for Garland as well? He's unlikely to be here long term and has proven himself an excellent pitcher everywhere except for Chase Field all year.

Garland is almost definitely on the block as well. The organization is hemorrhaging money and he won't be on the roster next year at his salary. Taking a guy with a 4.80 ERA and a $6.5 million salary is going to be extremely difficult these days however.

I have gathered a bit of information on Allen but am needing more. He seems to be progressing quite well lately. Does anyone have anymore information on him?

Doing a bit of research on him it looks like he'll be a 1st baseman on the Major League level. I would've rather have gotten a 3rd baseman, so Reynolds could be shifted to 1st but ah well.

I wonder if they'll look to move Conor Jackson at some point, he's got value, especially in the AL where he can maybe split time between DH/LF/1B and is sort of without a position in AZ.

Jon Rauch has had a good run lately (I can't believe I'm saying that). I wonder if he could possibly return some value.

Guys I can see moving:
Garland (lock)
Davis (lock)
Qualls (possible)
Lopez
Rauch
Byrnes (I wish)

Do the people on the azcentral.com comments ALWAYS bitch about everything? By the looks of the comments from this report, they seem to be very upset and considered him a key player down the road:

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/07/white-sox-acquire-tony-pena.html#comments

People on the AzCentral comments section are easily the stupidest people alive, I wish there was a way to turn the comments off. Id be shocked if they didnt bring up illegal immigrants or Sheriff Joe in the comments section about the trade.

Sox fans are pissed. You guys got a steal. Basically our number one minor leaguer for a reliever. He was rated number 2 on this site: futuresox.com/frontpage/?p=78

With Beckham up, that makes him tied for 1. Here are the fans thoughts: soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72822

Not pretty.

Anyways, I am hoping there is something that more than meets the eye for Perez. Anyone want to fill me in?

Decent 7th or 8th inning guy. People always thought he would be the future closer, but every time he got a chance, he failed.

Should turn out to be a very good trade! The DBacks will need a power hitter in the near future and hopefully Brandon Allen will be able to provide.

If Allen is really the Sox #1 prospect then their system is pretty barren. From reading, he needs to work on his defense and he has a problem losing the strike zone. At 23 he's reaching an age where he needs to be able to prove he can handle ML pitching. Hopefully his current struggles in AAA are just a slump.

i'm a Sox fan and Brandon Allen is not even close to their #1 prospect. He has potential but his power numbers(8 homers and slugging pct. under .500) haven't been up this year after a nice run in AA ball last year. In reality, he's probably their 8-12 best prospect,if that. He probably has more value to the D'backs than the Sox because 1b is a deep position for them.To me, it's pretty much a nothing trade with the Sox getting more help right now and the D'backs possibly getting some help down the road.

The reason Sox fans are upset is because they thought Allen could be used as a piece of the puzzle in a bigger deal to acquire a top line SP like Haren or Halladay. That's not going to happen.

If this means that Linebrink will leave, I am especially happy.
