McShay reported that McCoy ran a 4.5 and a 4.52 in his 40's and was very impressive in all of the other drills. What most impressed scouts was his Bryant Westbrook like recieving skills and ability to get up field in short order.

I like our draft position and our ability to land a very good RB with that 31st pick. McCoy may be the guy who when its all said and done is the most gifted overall of the Moreno, Wells, Brown, McCoy group.

4.4 would have been even better, but it's fast enough. I think Brown and McCoy are neck and neck. Either one's good, IMO. Brown toted a huge load for UCONN last season. He's ready as well.

In this draft, a back with 4.5 speed is blazing :p. What weight was he running at? He was at 197 when he had the flu.

40 doesn't = football speed. McCoy seems very fast on the field.

on the nfl network 'path to the draft' they werent as excited with his day as he had a vertical of only 29 inches and a sub-par broad jump. they felt that compared to the other backs he may not be worth a 1st rounder and had slipped to the 2nd round.

Seattle won't hesitate to grab him with their 2nd.

Pittsburgh Pro day: Junior running back LeSean "Shady" McCoy was the big name among the dozen or so former Pitt Panthers who worked out for an estimated 20-25 teams at Pitt's Pro Day Tuesday morning. McCoy, who was unable to workout at the Combine due to a bout with the flu, characterized himself as "a little disappointed" in his 4.48-4.53 times in the 40-yard dash, according to Paul Zeise of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. McCoy, according to scouts in attendance, was healthy and weighed in at 204 pounds, up 6 pounds from the 198 he weighed in at in Indianapolis. McCoy battled with the decision to leave Pitt after only two seasons with the program. He had previously spent a year at Milford Academy out of high school. McCoy earned First-team All-Big East accolades after each of his two seasons with the Panthers and left with 2,816 yards and 35 touchdowns rushing while adding 65 receptions for 549 yards. McCoy is battling with Donald Brown of Connecticut to be the third running back behind Georgia's Knowshon Moreno and Ohio State's Chris "Beanie" Wells. He is viewed as a potential first round prospect, though his inconsistency and lack of prototype size could push him into the middle of the second round. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

Pittsburgh Pro day: There were representatives from 30 NFL teams in attendance for Pitt's Pro Day Tuesday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex's indoor field, presumably to see tailback LeSean McCoy work out in person for the first time. However, there were about a dozen former Pittsburgh football players there showing off for the scouts with the hope that they'll either be selected in the upcoming NFL Draft next month or signed on as a free agent. It was LeSean McCoy, however, who garnered attention from most interested observers since he lost about 15 pounds and didn't work out at last month's NFL Combine in Indianapolis due to flu-like symptoms. McCoy, who declared for the NFL after just two seasons with the Panthers, specifically wanted to show off his improved strength and speed. "I don't think I blew anybody away today, to be honest with you, but I think I did pretty well,'' McCoy said. "I think, maybe, people were impressed with my strength. The running drills, showing I my cutting ability, my moves and other things like that, I think I did pretty well. "But I wanted to blow them away with my 40, which I didn't. But it's still early, and I'll get another chance. I ran OK, in the high 4.4s, which I'm kind of disappointed in that. But, other than that, everything else went real well. My bench was pretty good, 17-18 times (225 pounds).'' McCoy also measured at 5-foot-10 and 204 pounds, so he got about 10 pounds back from when he was ill but wanted to be up to 210. He should get there in the next few weeks once he's completely healthy. - Dale Grdnic, Panther Digest

nothing about those reports sounds impressive to me.In fact they sound very average to below average. That could be good.Maybe he slides down to the bottom of round 2.With those numbers,it wouldn't surprise me one bit. Pretty weak bench, average 40, so-so vertical, and a below average broad jump; slow , weak, an un-explosive doesn't sound like a 1st round RB to me.Maybe not even a second rounder. He could still be recovering from the flu though.

From the sounds of it, the Cardinals would be 'reaching' if they drafted this dude at #31 overall. If Wells and Moreno are gone, they probably go OLB, OL, or TE.

Wow I usually dont put much stock into all the workout numbers individually but I do take notice when you put them all together. Those leg explosion numbers in his vert and broad jump only shows what is seen on film and thats a complete lack of any kind of power, its the reason why he dances so much or goes for the cutback lane more times then naught because arm tackles work on this kid.

This kid has a lot of natural speed, agility, acceleration, and pass catching ability but his lack of strength, especially in the lower body is really going to hurt him in the NFL. He is compared to Westbrook but Westbrook has what I read recently a "compact strength", McCoy does not. If we do draft him a lot of people are going to moan and groan about him being just like JJ Arrington his first few years in the league unless McCoy goes hard and heavy with Lott and even that will take a year.

I think that McCoy will drop to the second round but we pick so low that I doubt he will drop that much but who knows??

Andre Brown is bigger stronger and faster

Andre Brown, who was the best-looking tailback at the Senior Bowl, came away with some impressive combine numbers that will further bolster his stock. The N.C. State product weighs 224 pounds but was the fourth-fastest running back with a 4.49 40. He also had 24 reps of 225 pounds and a 37-inch vertical jump. - Matt Barrows, Sacramento Bee

02/11/09 - PRO POTENTIAL: RB Andre Brown was dogged by injuries in his N.C. State career, but still will draw attention at the next level because of his all-around game. He's a good blocker and capable receiver out of the backfield, but will have to convince NFL teams that he'll be healthy enough to stay on the field.

A Few Observations About RB's This Year...

1. First of all, War Room and other draft services have been screwing around with forty times. I'll go to a site on a Monday to find a guy timed at 4.50 only to go back on a Wed. to find the time changed to 4.44 and then on Friday finding him timed at 4.65. This is not all due to the natural transition from Original Time to Combine Time to Pro Day Time. Some of it is just...well...strange. And it's driving me nuts!

2. For example, McCoy was originally said to run a 4.50. Then War Room (a recently as 2 days ago) had him running a sparkling 4.30. So now his Pro Day time is back up to 4.5 or 4.52? Is this an improvement or otherwise?

3. My take on McCoy is that he "times well" but may lack the toughness as a blocker or running between the tackles to be an every-down back but could be devestating as a passing-down specialist.

4. The RB situation right now is "fluid" mainly because Beanie Wells timed so well (albeit on a fast OSU track) on his Pro Day. At his earlier time of 4.59, it's quite possible he'd drop somewhere into the 2nd round, but at his Pro Day time of 4.43, he bounces right back up the charts to #1 or #2 (behind Moreno). This is very important to the Cardinals because the presence of Wells in Round One could conceivably cause Moreno to drop to us at #31.

5. How RB's are rated depends on which type we're looking for at what point in the draft. Personally, I think we need a big back to compliment Timmy T and Wright. Therefore, my draft order goes: (1) Moreno (4.51 @ 217 lbs), (2) Wells ("juiced-up" 4.43 @ 235), (3) Andre Brown (4.40 @ 225) and (5) Greene (4.55 @ 227) After that, we get to the smaller, fast one-cut guys like (4) McCoy (4.30 - 4.50 @ 198), (6) Donald Brown (4,49 @ 210) or Kory Sheets (4.43 @ 207).

6. My guess - Either we draft Wells or Moreno if we get lucky in Round One or we may decide to wait til the mid-rounds to pick up someone lesser known like Cedric Peerman (4.41 @ 216) or Rashad Jennings (4.42 @ 231) (or possibly the underrated A Brown at #64). I'm just not sure whether, in terms of what we need at RB, McCoy or Brown represents good value at #31. (I guess that's why they pay Keim and his people the big bucks).

Wells or Moreno if they are there. If not, draft Mack. He will make the second round back we take a better player.

Ding ding ding...my thoughts exactly. This is way too similar to the jj deal. I would feel much better about Brown, that kid lit it up on all counts of the workouts. Also, watching tape on McCoy, it seems most of his highlight runs were against the weaker compitition.

The fact that he should have stayed another year to get stronger and more experienced shows me that he may just be looking for a payday after putting up some numbers this year.

I agree, But of those you mentioned, Strength is the ONE factor you can improve on.
