After checking with sources, ESPN's Ashley Fox believes the Eagles will hold onto CB Asante Samuel.

Fox was formerly with the Phiiladelphia Inquirer, so she has plenty of connections with the Eagles. As well as he played through 10 weeks last season, Samuel's $5.4 salary is plenty reasonable. By all accounts, the Eagles are gearing up for a Super Bowl run in which three top corners will be as much a necessity as a luxury.

I think there's a better chance we get Chris Samuel.

NFL Network's Mike Lombardi reports that the Eagles are now willing to entertain trade offers for Asante Samuel.

This contradicts a report from ESPN's Ashley Fox, who after checking with sources predicted Samuel would return to Philadelphia. Samuel has large base salaries ($5.9 million in 2011) forthcoming, so he won't be easy to trade. He also isn't a schematic fit for zone defenses or teams that want their corners to play press-man. If the Eagles are going to make a Super Bowl run, they ought to strongly consider keeping Samuel this season, then cutting him when his salary jumps to $8.4 million in 2012. When healthy, he's still a top-ten cornerback in terms of ball skills and off-man coverage.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles are already receiving trade inquiries about Asante Samuel.

NFL Network's Mike Lombardi reported late Friday that the Eagles would field all offers. Samuel's agent, Alonza Shavers, has also been outspokenly against his client moving into a third cornerback role following the offseason additions of Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Because Samuel's salaries are so pricey, it will be difficult to get a high pick back.

Asante Samuel reported to Eagles training camp Monday.

Samuel had been on an "excused absence" from the team for the previous four days and it's unclear if that was related to the Nnamdi Asomugha situation. Now he reports to a situation where he'll be the subject of heavy trade rumors and questions about how he feels as a No. 3 corner. The brash Samuel is almost certainly displeased with his apparent demotion.
