It will be all about the guaranteed money. I would guess 50 million would get it done. If we don't pay him someone else will.
I actually don't think that's true. I'd guess he's worth more to us than anyone else in the NFL. If someone wants to pay $50 million guaranteed (would be the new highest safety guarantee ever) to a player who turns 29 in 24 days, more power to them.

Budda has had a mediocre supporting cast for a majority of his career here. How are you guys still underrating him lol
Underrating him how? He's the third-best safety the Cards have had in my time as a fan (well behind Adrian Wilson and Honey Badger). Good locker room guy and everything, but he's the fourth- or fifth-best player on a playoff defense.

So the bar for Budda is two of the best safeties in the history of NFL?
As it should be. Considering he set the all time nfl salary bar for the position with his last contract. He imo should produce like that. Hes fun to watch he is a good player but hes not all that. He gets worshipped around here like he plays like those 2. I expect more from an all pro than just tackle numbers and little else.

This is the problem - two of the top 9 highest paid safeties are on this team.

Pay Budda and use Jalen's money for better front 7 players.

We're not lacking for cap space. We only save $6 million on the cap by cutting Jalen Thompson (he has no trade market). $6 million doesn't even get you a rotational-quality IDL.

Just like the Conner deal, the negotiation for Budda will come down to years. My guess is the Cardinals would like it to be a 3 year deal and Budda will push for 4+. Tough to see Budda getting a contract at more than 16 ml per year. The floor likely is 10 mil per year based on comps.

Well I also watched both those guys a lot and I would take Budda over the Honey badger any day of the week.

For his whole career Wilson might be better - but for this season I don't think anyone I have seen in a Cards uniform has outplayed what Budda is doing this year.

Y'all over-value tackles.

And you over value 2 or 3 picks. They are mostly luck if a ball happens to be thrown badly in your vicinity.
True ball hawk safeties go out there and get more than that in a season. It’s Called instinct. You are much more likely to impact a game with an int or a FF than 10 tackles 8 yards past the LOS.

This is really ridiculous. Badger was a a ball hawk and made INT because he could expertly read an offense.

Most are luck because… they’re thrown badly. Bizarre post.

I can maybe agree with Golden & Byron.

The others that year? Nah.
Jones had 10.5 sacks, 6 Forced Fumbles, 12 tackles for loss and another 26 QB hits. He was easily better than Buddah. Even if you want to take away his opening day dominant performance against Tenn (which is always a weird thing to do) he was still better than Budda.

Guaranteed money should be around 30 million or slightly less, e.g., the equivalent of 2 years salary. It hard for me see them giving more than 3 years and I don't think he gets that anywhere else.

Is there an actual tracked stat for average distance from the LOS per tackle, or are people just making up numbers to minimize Baker's impact?

Budda leads the league from the safety position with 9 TFLs - two more than Derwin James or any other safety.

Anyone who's actually watched the games has seen that a lot of his tackles have been drive killers.

I agree that the INTs are random. I'm more interested in passes defensed. Budda is T-103 in the NFL in passes defensed. The top safeties in passes defensed are Kirby Joesph (DET), Eric Murry and Calen Bullock (HOU) with 10.

I know that the DVOA guys charted in, but I haven't gotten their annual since they moved to FTN.

I just did a CTRL+F on his name on the game from yesterday and added up the yardage on his tackles.

6.3% of Budda's tackles have been for loss. 8.4% of Derwin James' tackles have been for loss. When you're making 140 tackles or whatever, I don't know if 1/20 really moves the needle?

It's a tough call on how much to give him because he is more effective in the run game than pass game. But he does impact games every week you can't discount that. He's going to be a pro bowl S again this year. Would that be 7 years in a row? With a couple more, you're getting close to HOF talk. He's probably already cemented his place in the Cardinals ROH.

BTW, is Adrian Wilson, who was better than Budda, eligible for the hall yet? He should get in eventually.

I’m not taking away from his opening performance. I’m not sure why you brought that up tbh. But after that performance, he was clearly a no-show for pretty much the rest of the season.

You brought up TFL, Budda had half as many despite Chandler playing on the DLine(and how many TFL did he have that first game?) & Budda playing safety.

Then again, I guess you can make the argument Budda’s stats that year didn’t look that impressive because he didn’t have to cover for so much like he has a majority of his career.
