Last weekend I went up to the rim near Blue Ridge Reservoir. I was hoping to find some place right off the water but it apparently doesn't exist so I ended up making camp, after dark, right next to a cliff. Just a couple of trees which gave a great view of the stars and you could see the lights of the town (I am guessing Pine) at night.

During the day however, there was a ton of traffic along the road. That was annoying, but there was also a steady stream of people pulling up right next to my camp to get a look at the view off the cliff. No joke. 100' away and at one point I counted 8 vehicles parked.

In retrospect I have to shoulder most of the blame. On my way out I realized I was on Rim Rd. However, if I was driving by I would never stop so close to someones camp. I would consider it rude.

I am asking you guys what you think. How much personal space do you give other campers.

As much as possible.

I mean, you are out in the middle of the wilderness. How much more of a hint do people need that you are looking to get away from people ?

On a somewhat related note I finally got the chance to bust out the tripod grill my wife and daughter got me a couple years ago.

I loved it and the pork loin I cooked on it.

That's neat. I need one of those!

I make a conscious effort to respect a camper's space. People can be pretty annoying, and it seems to be getting worse, or maybe I'm just getting older and grumpier.

I think it is also that more and more people are getting outdoors.
Yeah that's true. I couldn't find a good spot for my RV trailer on Labor day in the Lake Mary area so we bailed a day early. We've always been able to find a dispersed camping spot on Labor day. I'm just gonna have to make reservations at a campground going forward unless we go way back in the forest.

looks like you finally broke down and bought a Yeti/RTIC cooler.

Blue ridge does have camping on the water, one is a trail you have to hike down, the others are only accessible by boat.

If you were on Rim road, you shouldn't have been anywhere near blue ridge? Rim road is a few minutes before the road to blue ridge.

PS: a lot of what I will refer to as yuppies, do not consider space whne camping, they just pull up anywhere and everywhere. I have taken some of these people camping without knowing they were that way and remember them complaining about the driving around the woods looking for a good spot. They told me they had kids sleeping in the car, I replied me too, im looking for a good spot. They pointed right off the road at a bunch of people camping stating they wanted to just camp right here. I advised them they were welcome to but I am not pulling up and setting up camp right next to another campsite. I want at LEAST 50 yards between me and the next camp site. At least.

I won that Yeti in a contest at work. I must say that it is surprisingly efficient.

I was on the south side of Blue Ridge. Every spot I found was on a cliff over looking the water.

I don't think I've ever been on the south side of it so that makes sense

It's not bad. I will probably go back, just not to the same spot. I saw a couple roads that led off 300 that looked promising. I was having car problems so I didn't want to explore on my say out like I normally do.
