Personally, I like the Orange jerseys.

Some of you guys want to live in the past. The type font of those jerseys are from the "Old West". Do you think that they would sell well in the "urban market".

The current jerseys just need one tweek and that would be to reduce the amount of gray outside the orange piping on the shoulder straps. These are the best uniforms in the NBA and several teams have tried to copy, Utah, Memphis, Seattle (to some extent), Dallas, Orlando, Houston. Once Pheonix lead the way going back to sewn on letters from screen printing and adding piping the rest of the teams I mentioned followed.

Here is that prior thread with the gray jersey

The alternate jersey should be a deeper (charcoal) gray body with purple side panels and orange piping. Orange should not be a primary body color, that should be exclusive to the Phoenix Mercury.

Welcome to the 2000's, in case you haven't noticed, futuristic is out, Old School in...which is exactly why they would be popular, beyond the fact that they look the best.

So tell me what team has gone back to its "throw back" as its primary uniform. Oh yeah the Boston Celtics, the only team in the league that does not have a "throw back" jersey because it is there current uniform. That proud tradition of the Celts, in only team that wants to live in the past, since they have not been to the finals since the 80's.

The "throw back" is a marketing gimmick to sell more NBA merchandise to the older generation and not representative of what is popular with the current generation.

Oh, well I guess if other teams haven't done it, then we can't.... I am 22 years old and am surrounded by pop culture, the "throwback" style is a large part of pop culture these days. Turn on MTV, and all the musicians are wearing it, lots of the players were wearing throwback stuff at the All star game. Taking a shot at the Celtics uni's is pretty silly, I think most people would consider the Celtics jersey one of the best in the NBA. It's a matter of personal preference, I am sure a lot of people like the new ones, however, in my opinion, the Old School style is best. Anything "futuristic or modern" always ends up looking goofy in a few years anyway. (IE Suns jerseys during their Barkley glory days...)

Well, we live in opposite worlds. I'm in my 40's and hate the throwback jerseys, I don't want to live in the past. You did not live through the 70's, that is one decade I would like to forget.

"The Celtics jersey one of the best in the NBA', you must be a very simple person to say something like that. Two color tones with a set of stripes down the leg of the shorts, that is what my High School basketball uniform looked like. If the Celtics want to go "throwback", I guess they could just go back to the tight fitting shorts. That's what we had to wear in the 70's.

I agree about the jersey of the 90's, it had too much going on. But as I have stated before the Suns started that trend and people followed. The Suns then started the current trend of adding the piping and the sewn on letters. It is a blend of the 70's, 80's and 90's and in MO the best uniform in the NBA today, except in orange and gray.

You call it "living in the past", I view it as getting back to traditional style, without goofy graphics and logos that become garish and silly looking after a few years. Call me simple if you like, I think most would agree that traditional logos and uniforms are consitently considered the best. From the NHL, to the NFL, to every other professional league, the jerseys consistently considered the best are the traditional jerseys. Perhaps you can request the 70's tight fitting shorts to further authenticate the experience though... :D

Well, I'm in my fifties, and I like BOTH styles if well done, and neither if badly conceived or executed.
But my grandson, who is just entering the pre-teen most-desired-target-market, is totally into Retro.

If every team had the traditional style (like Boston), there would be no market for NBA authentics at all.

I'm sorry I do not agree with your general statement "I think most would agree that traditional logos and uniforms are consistently considered the best". I would agree that teams that have been around for a long time (Yankees, Red Wings and Celtics) these franchises resist change because of the tradition their fans want hold on to (the good old days when there were fewer teams and easier to win a "world" championship) but teams like Phoenix accept change. The new Phoenix Suns logo (the Firebird rising from the ashes) is the most creative and incorporates not only the Sun, the Phoenix, the ashes and the NBA, whereas the logo of the 70's a half sun with text is rather simple. Teams that do not have the "storied" history of the older franchises will accept change and get used to it there will be another change in the uniforms to become more modern not more retro.

As far as graphics you are right they have no useful purpose being on the front of a uniform and that is why you are seeing the icon on the back above the players name, a more subtle approach.

In my world I hope that the Suns win the championship in their current uniforms and never change them again and 20 years from now are still on the court wearing the purple, gray and orange piping.
