This is a scary thought.

NL GM:"There are a half-dozen teams that were in on Brad Ziegler who couldn't understand why Boston got him for half what Arizona was (Peter Gammons ‏@pgammo @pgammo) asking everyone else. It had to be Dave Dombrowski's relationship with Tony LaRussa, dating back to the White Sox in the eighties.

What a f'ing joke. TLR and Stewart should be chemically castrated for these lopsided deals. They're making Towers look like Theo Epstein.

It is getting harder to root for this team. Everything looked so promising after 2011 and it started to go down hill once Towers traded Parker.

I have been sceptical of TLR since the day he arrived. The guy has already established his legacy coming to AZ was a money grab. I don't think he gives a crap about the Dbacks and wouldn't be surprised if he's just daring management to fire him so he can get paid for doing nothing.

Well I dunno bout Towers but they're certainly making Josh Byrnes look like Theo.

There's gotta be some kind of unintentionally poor wording here somewhere or something. Maybe they were asking for twice the value from other teams and were turned down, so they turned to Boston? Maybe more will come out soon.

As a baseball czar, Tony is a great former Manager. He had zero experience to skip over the rest of the Front Office. :D

Maybe TLR is mimicking BA's "No risk it...no biscuit" mantra but he many be shown the proverbial "door" pretty soon if he doesn't produce results as Kendrick is not the most patient man out there.

Yea, I still don't understand this trade. Z has been the most consistent player on this team. Even though he is in his late 30's, the guy can pitch for the next 5 years. I would be all for it if it was for a established player (doesn't even have to be a stud). There is a lot of political crap going on with the Dbacks, IMO

If he's mimicking it, he really didn't understand what BA was referring to.

He went for broke with the Greinke signing and Miller trade, it didn't turn things around so he realizes no biscuit and may go into cost cutting mode.

Cashman just showed us how it's done. Got the Cubs best prospect plus 3 more guys for Chapman.

Not even remotely close to being able to use this deal as a comp for the Ziegler deal. That said, I am still waiting to hear from the Dbacks as to any possible justification for giving away Ziegler...

Yes - Ziegler is not in the same universe as Chapman.

I read, at the time, they were dumping his 2.7 mil salary, getting 2 young prospects and will pursue signing him next year. Should have just kept him and try to sign him. With his pitching style, he is a young 36.

If we re-sign him next season at an acceptable price, I would totally be ok with all of this as we did pick up 2 young prospects along the way...

I didn't say they were the same caliber player but Cashman waited and got max value and Chapman is expiring to boot. What a deal for the Yanks.

Ziegler's value would have gone up after the Chapman deal. That's the part that hurts.
