Jordan Plocher of Pro Football Focus recently selected an early-round and a late-round option in the NFL draft for every team's top need. Naturally, for the Indianapolis Colts, the position selected was tight end.

When it came to which early and late round tight end prospects Plocher has on his radar for the Colts, not surprisingly, in the first round, he selected Penn State's Tyler Warren.

But as far as the Day 3 option goes, Plocher went with Bowling Green's Harold Fannin Jr.

"Fannin is another intriguing option — a dynamic receiving threat who delivered a legendary 2024 season, leading all tight ends in receiving grade (96.4), yards (1,555) and touchdowns (10)," Plocher wrote.

The Colts need a much greater passing game presence and Fannin could certainly provide that as the numbers above illustrate. But beyond his production, he brings versatility to an offense as well, lining up in the slot, out wide, and even in the backfield occasionally.

There are a variety of ways to get him the ball and he can attack all levels of the field as a route runner.

However, it's worth mentioning that only 38% of Fannin's snaps last season came in-line, according to PFF. The trickle-down of that is if Fannin's not lining in-line, that means Josh Downs, Michael Pittman, or Alec Pierce has to come off the field. The tight end's ability to hold his own as a dependable blocker is also an important element within Shane Steichen's offense.

So, while from a passing game perspective, Fannin can give the Colts a needed boost, I'm not sure he completely checks the boxes in terms of what Steichen is looking to add to his offense at that position.
