i don't know. amare thinks he's at the same level as Bron, Wade and Bosh... and that just ain't even close to the case. I'm thinking Randolph doesn't believe the same.

I'm OK with the bravado as long as you back it up. I'd much rather have this than the mild mouse LB persona.

I believe I know why Kerr did not trade Amare. IMO, at least 50% of it was vanity (because of other poor trades orchestrated by him in the past) with the exception of the Diaw/ Banks trade.

Kerr acknowledged that a factor in staying with the current playoff-projected team was because the Suns don't own their first-round pick and would not want to pass a lottery pick to Oklahoma City.

Kerr was not going to be able to draft John Wall no matter how remote the odds since Oklahoma already owns the rights to the Suns 2010 pick without lottery protection. So why sweat a trade except for ego. I think Kerr was afraid to go down in Suns infamy with even the remote possibility of giving up the pick that selects John Wall in the lottery. That is ultimately why Kerr hung on to Amare. This Suns team is not going nowhere and Amare will likely be gone next season.

I think Kerr could have pulled the trigger on some trades early with other teams that could given the Suns something of value in return for Amare.

It's amazing to see Amare putting up the numbers he's been putting up as of late, including the rebounding... You have to wonder where this has been the previous 7 years or so... And worse, you have to wonder that if/when he gets a long term deal, will he sustain this level of play or will he fall back into the old Amare who was good, not great, and certainly not good enough to win in the post season...

And I'm sure everyone in his situation (no real ties to the team, new at the job) would've done the same thing for the same reasons.

Bosh, yes. LBJ and Wade? No.

any bets on who gets more money in the off-season, Amare or Bosh? my guess is Bosh is the more valued player by most of the league and we'll see him paid as such in the off-season.

Before this trade season debacle, I might have disagreed with you, but not anymore.

Primary trade problem
The organization had lost it's negotiating credibility
Teams believed-push them to the limit and they will cave in
Probably the best move-or non move made in years.
It may hurt the team short term -but long term- at least it will give other organizations the belief that you have to give value for value

Totally agree. I was a fan of the Expos from my Montreal days and aside from the firesales, it was the worst part about being a fan. The dwindling crowds and mockery in the media I could deal with, but I hated that other teams would play hardball in negotiations without hesiataion because they didn't respect the FO, so there were rarely any equitable trade opportunities.

And nobody wants to be the GM that got taken by the Expos.

really? what changed in your opinion?

Just based on the offers we received (that we know of) for Amare.

Personally, I don't think Bosh is that much different than Amare. Better rebounder, but that's about all he's better at--maybe a bit better defensively, but Amare's 15 foot shot is much better.

ah, i misread your post. I don't think Bosh is that much different either, but his health and rebounding is what vaults him ahead of amare as a possible franchise PF. neither of them are close to Bron or Wade, but if i was starting a team, just based on the little bit better d and better rebounding, I'd take bosh.

Would you take Bosh over the new Amare?? ;)

The only team I think could lure Stoudemire into exercising his out is New Jersey. They could pay him if they want and they need a player to be the face of the franchise. But they would have to give him like 5/$80 mil, and I think the only way they'd be allowed to do that is a sign-and-trade with Suns using Bird rights.

So I think either Amare stays another year for $17.7 mil or the Suns do a sign-and-trade on a Bird-right deal and get more flexibility for summer of 2011.

Then the NBA will go through another lockdown and screw the Suns over, because that's how things go for teams I root for.

Suns can't re-sign Amare. Not with the massively shrinking cap in 2011. They need to get him off the books one way or another and they'll let J-Rich walk. They won't have room to replace them, so they better find a way to get some draft picks in a hurry.

I would call Amare a very poor man's Dominique Wilkins. Wilkins was the guy who would get you 35 points but only 2 rebounds....
Wasn't 'Nique a Small Forward vs. Amar'e -- a Power Forward playing, until recently, Center by default?

35 points with 2 boards will get a Small Forward an All Star start every time.

Yes, 'Nique was a SF through and through. That's not the comparison I'm making....

The difference is only the years and raise, I believe. For Amare, he'd maximally get a starting salary of 105% of his this year's with a raise of 8% per for 5 years total. So, roughly, it'd be 17, 18.3, 19.7, 21, 22.4. Or 5/96.
