From PFW (Darren Urban is their AZ correspondent):

"The consensus among team sources with the Cardinals is that, after a somewhat shaky start, O-line coach Steve Loney definitely deserves to remain on the staff of whoever is named the team's new head coach. With Reggie Wells having been moved from left guard to right tackle to protect QB Matt Leinart's blind side, and rookie Deuce Lutui, who recently told PFW that he thinks the world of Loney, settling in nicely at right guard, the Cardinals' O-line has shown marked improvement in the last month."

Several ASFN posters have made comments recently about the OL playing a little better. Can't remember who, but it looks like "team sources" agree.

It's going to help us hire a new coaching staff and/or general manager if the front office is already insisting that the new regime keep the assistants of the old.

Yeah, that always works well! :sarcasm:

More and more, I believe that if the Cardinals continue to show sign's of turning it around that DG will be back next year.

trust me, if the designated new hire says "I want so and so to be my o-line coach" then Loney is out of luck.

Additionally, everything I have read calls Loney "well respected throughout the league" -- so even if he is on the new staff, it may be that he was the best guy out there.

I think if the Bidwills are too cheap to keep Looney than they will also be too vheap to keep Kubiac who has turned this offense as a whole around.More sarcasm. I would think that if everything is working Pendy included ,then Micheal Bidwill better be real carefull that some guy is not coming in to pull it apart but make it as good as it should be.

usually when a new coach is hired they get to bring in their own staff. if they decide to keep any of the old staff around then it is because they think they are best avaible. looney wouldn't be such a bad keep. that unless someone else out there wants him for an offensive cordinator job like they wanted him last season.

I'm pretty sure you mean Kruzczek, since Gary Kubiak is the head coach in Houston.

The question is why would fans want any new head coach who would come here not wanting to install his own staff? Would anyone here be want a guy that is that desperate and didn't have a plan of his own already in his mind? When Andy Reid got hired by the Eagles, he already had his "Dream Staff" in a series of notebooks to have the GM go out and hire.

Obviously a new HC would want o select his own staff.

That wouldn't stop him wanting to select an existing coach

anyone know how long the assts. contracts are?? just curious, obviously if there is a replacement made you can be certain that the newly elected would want to know up front what the program is....the fact of the matter is we don't know who called the shots on who made the decisions...if i recall correctly looney wanted the best five up front regardless....but who made the decision on the best five???

Let's wait and see how the OL performs against better defenses next four games before getting too excited.

If the Coaching staff had listened to the Fans and read this board during training camp they would have at least tried Wells at RT when Ross went down with an injury. Not to mention starting Leckey instead of Step.

Too this day it still blows my mind that it took them this long to figure out that Wells belongs at RT.

Isn't Loney under consideration for a College Head Coaching position.
At least I thought I read that somewhere.

Exactly. The article said that the front office feels that he deserves to stay, not that it's a requirement for the new coach to keep him. A new head coach would like to select his own staff but

1. There's no reason not to keep a good coach that's already there. For one thing, that's a coach that has already been working with the players. When Gruden arrived in Tampa he kept the defensive staff intact becuase they were doing a great job and there was no reason to replace them. If Gruden were to be fired after the season it's a safe bet that any new coach would want to retain Kiffen.

2. The new HC needs to have available assistants to bring in. If we get Rivera, for example, he can't just take his Bears coaching staff with him. Teams generally don't allow lateral moves of coaches.

There are soooooo many things to rag on the Cardinals FO about but let's not get carried away and start grabbing the pitch forks and torches over an article saying Loney has done a good job recently and deserves to stay.

Iowa State I heard.
Too late, Iowa State hired the Texas defensive coordinator Gene Chizdek.

On Loney, there is precedent. Bill Parcells kept a couple of the Cowboy assistants when Jerry Jones hired him. And nobody has accused JJ of being cheap.

Didn't Schottenheimer keep the entire defensive staff when he took over?

....and one of those guys...the dc is a very viable young guy who can take over a team as hc if mgt was inclined to find a young turk who has no hc experience...he has been with the cowboys for quite awhile and must be very well thought of.

Kent Somers just commented on this today with his appearance on Bickley and MJ. Kent said Green is acting like moving Wells to RT was his ID when all of the local sports writers and "All over the Message Boards" people were expecting this move back in August.

I wonder what message board Kent was talking about.

;)

Well they stole the 'Ask the coach a question' idea from us a few years ago.
