The New York Giants hold the third overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft, two weeks from now in Green Bay. There's a lot of debate on which player they will, or should take with that pick.

With Tennessee expected to take Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the first overall selection, the Giants will be facing a tough choice between Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter or Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter.

Naturally, it will depend on who Cleveland selects at No. 2. Either way, the Giants will be looking at a generational player.

What, not take a quarterback, you ask, such as Colorado's Shedeur Sanders? Well, the Giants may not have him rated that high. Carter and Hunter will be too hard to pass on.

Retired Giants great Phil Simms doesn't think the Giants will take Sanders at No. 3 for several reasons, but doesn't rule it out completely.

"Boy, we're getting a lot of different kinds of quarterbacks here in one room," Simms said. "Are we going to create an offense for all of them? You can kind of create an offense for two but damn, we're gonna get into three and four guys? I don't know."

Simms makes a good point about the Giants having too many different types of quarterbacks in their QB room already (Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston, Tommy DeVito) and adding Sanders might force them to put him on the field as a rookie. The offense would likely have to be altered to cater to that plan.

Also, passing on another great player to satisfy a need is what got the Giants where they are today -- redrafting the same positions over and over again. They have to plant their flag somewhere, sometime.

General manger Joe Schoen has stated recently that they will do just that. They will take the best player in front of them like they did last year with wide receiver Malik Nabers. That's worked out well so far.
