The Philadelphia Phillies kick off their 2025 season on Thursday against the Washington Nationals. With the Phillies sporting one of the top rosters in the league on paper, they are entering this campaign with very high expectations.

With the regular season just about here, the Phillies are putting the finishing touches on their roster. Due to this, the NL East team has now made a last-minute trade before Opening Day.

The Phillies have announced that they have traded pitcher Tyler Phillips to the Miami Marlins in exchange for cash considerations.

This Phillips trade comes after the Phillies designated the right-handed pitcher for assignment on Sunday. Now, the 27-year-old pitcher is getting a fresh start with one of the Phillies' division rivals.

Phillips appeared in his first eight major league games, which included seven starts, this past season with the Phillies. During them, he posted a 4-1 record, a 6.87 ERA, and 28 strikeouts.

Phillips struggled during Spring Training with the Phillies before his DFA, recording a 1-3 record and 7.59 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched. Now, he will aim to get things back on track after getting this change of scenery with the Marlins.

Overall, this is a low-risk move for the Marlins. At a minimum, Phillips will provide them with more pitching depth for the start of the season. It will be intriguing to see how much of an impact the Lumberton, New Jersey native makes from here.
