Phils cut 2B Castillo after brief look (AP)

The Philadelphia Phillies have released second baseman Luis Castillo two days before their opener. The NL East champions announced the move before Wednesday's exhibition game against Pittsburgh. The Phillies were looking for help at second base because All-Star Chase Utley is still hobbled by knee trouble and there's no timetable for his return.
