The Mercury has 3 stars. The Suns have 3 stars.

The Mercury has a role playing Center and, after being beaten on the boards early in the season, have been equaling their opponents in rebounds.

The Suns trade away the closest thing they had to a Center, and hope they can convince an older one to un-retire.

The Mercury is on their way to a Championship. The Suns have slipped farther behind.

Hmmm, maybe Ann Meyers-Drysdale should become GM of the Suns when the Mercury season ends. You can't argue with success.

The Mercury have a fine team, no question, but are you seriously comparing them to the Suns and the WNBA to the NBA? PLEASE tell me you don't honestly believe that and it's just the irrational hate for ownership that is fueling this, BC.

You may be over-reacting. I think BC is merely saying that he (she?) doesn't like the Suns GM. The owner is the same.

It's the same ownership, Chap.

What I am saying is that Ann Meyers-Drysdale came on board as GM and built the Suns "sister" team up, not down, as the Suns have done.

The Mercury, as the Suns, were being severly outrebounded in every game, and overcame it by playoff time. Yes, I do honestly believe that. They didn't alibi it, they overcame it.

Why not respond to the specific subject I posted, rather than with a generalization?

Thanks, haverford. (It is "he", by the way.)

Chap knows that 39 years of the Suns falling short of being playoff-ready have left me frustrated as hell. The Suns aren't alone. Larry Miller and his Utah Jazz are the same. But I don't root for the Jazz.

This market is not a one-team town like Salt Lake City. We are filled with major sports teams, among whom there is competition.

Is there anyone on this board who doesn't believe that the Suns are blowning another golden opportunity?

Ann Meyers-Drysdale is part of the only family in history where the husband and wife are in their sports' Hall of Fame. She knows excellence.

My point was

I'd appreciate your reacting to that, Chap.

Regardless of ownership, success with woman's basketball and success with men's basketball are two completely different things. The talent pool is different, the league make-up is different, the way money is spent is different. There is no way to equate the two--again, except as a way to make an off-base connection to the way the Suns are run. Tiger Woods knows excellence as well, but that doesn't mean he should manage a mens professional basketball team. Steve Kerr knew excellence--he's actually got championships! He hasn't exactly impressed me, and the verdict is still out on the Kurt Thomas thing, but is it enough to give up on the team like so many do? Not at all.

I understand your 39 year wait, I really do. I want a championship as well. But it isn't as easy as just getting a bunch of good players and throwing them on the same team. It doesn't work that way. 39 years is a long time, yes, but that is only 39 teams that have one the NBA championship since the Suns have been in existence. That isn't a whole lot. There can only be one out of 30 teams a year. Just one. I'm not saying the front office hasn't made mistakes. However, we have been extremely competitive and close the past 3 years. That counts for something. I understand the "all or nothing" stand you take, but unfortunately that doesn't exist in today's sports world--any sport.

It's hard not to look silly when you're drooling over a chintzy paperweight like it's the Holy Grail.

Even the Suns marketing department doesn't buy into that philosophy. Last year's motto was, "Eyes on the prize."

So this year it should be, "That is only 39 teams that have won the NBA championship. There can only be one of 30 teams a year."?

How about just, "The Phoenix Suns -- there are too many other teams -- disappointment now, disappointment forever."?!?

The Suns marketing department doesn't espouse that, Chap. You're a good debater, but I don't think that's really what you, or any Suns fan really feels.

Huh? I was simply debating the fact that you think it's easy to win a championship and that it is simply management incompetence that is keeping us from the "prize", and it is a lot more than that.

golf clap for the Mercury.
Watching women play hoops is painful - they manage to be lower, slower and less... graceful than the men.

If Sarver is on the sidelines cheering all game with his foam finger..

People bash him..

If Sarver arrives by halftime with sunglasses on...

People bash him..

If Sarver prefers to not pay 15M$ luxury tax...

People bash him..

If Sarver spends money on FAs for less than the MLE despite being over the tax..

People bash him..

Sarver = Rod Graves

Well, the Mercury GM realized that playing three superstars isn't enough to get you into the Finals.

You need a lineup that is no longer being outrebounded.

How I wish Suns management were that insightful.

Easy? Not necessarily. Logical? Absolutely.

Other threads have referred to D'Antoni hinting that he's disappointed that the Suns got rid of their second big man instead of adding a third to join Amare and Kurt Thomas. Now we're down two.

That's what's keeping us from the prize.

We need a skilled General Manager. I offered the name of Ann Meyers-Drysdale.

how great would it be for both of the pro basketball teams in phoenix to win their respective championships in consecutive years?

That would be awesome. Visualizing it is the first step towards achieving it.

2008 NBA Champs - Phoenix Suns
