We saw a cardinal at Apache lake a few weeks ago. The guy was so red he stood out like a sore thumb in all the green, blue and brown scenery.

I have a male/female pair that shows up regularly at the backyard feeder

and I live at Cactus and Tatum

In the midwest, they seem almost tame, but here they are a pretty shy bird in suburbia

if you know their call, you can hear them all the time

very true..those of us living in the chicagoland area see them often. yes their brilliance can be seen from a distance. just yesterday while i was repairing my lawn i stopped for a few minutes to stare at a few that i saw....for those of you who care, it is the males that are the red ones...the females are brown.

Cardinals are beautiful birds but even here in the midwest I rarely see them I wish there were more.

If you build it they will come.....go to your local Ace or wherever and buy a bird feeder....also buy some cardinal food...do not hang it where squirrels can get near it and the cardinals will come...one specie of cardinal will maigrate from two areas...chicago and st louis (joke)
