Literally in the wrong place at the wrong time on every play. This was a bizarre offseason but I attribute Simmons not being remotely competent to poor coaching. Give him a position and let him play it. He was the right pick and we were lucky to get him. Don’t mess with him and that “hybrid” philosophy.

Thank Goodness the Cardinals won this game. Simmons literally gave up 14 points. Great win. Coaching staff needs to figure out Simmons identity. Great player if used correctly.

Wow..... he was directly responsible for 14 points IMO. He looked absolutely lost multiple times. Truly disappointing.

He got burned on the first TD the other one wasn’t on him. Outside guy covers outside guy.

I fully expect all rookies to struggle. Really no legit offseason and no preseason this was his first time ever playing legit NFL completion and it was against one of the 5 best teams in football.

calm down he’s going to be fine

This is why Arians didn't play rookies until November. I think even PP didn't play until late October. Rookies have such a curve in talent to adjust to in the NFL, it's no wonder he got beat a ton today.

Convert him to TE (-:

He had some nice plays early but Shanahan is a great playcaller and he picked on Simmons several times.

That said they did it all game they do all those misdirections and fakes, Simmons bit twice and gave up 2 TD's.

I think rookies like him changing positions are at a huge disadvantage this year due to the lack of a preseason.

Kittle used a pick play on Simmons that should have been called. He was clearly blocking before the ball was snapped. Rewatch it.

This was a hell of a win. On the road against the Niners. But after the bizarre six months, the coaching staff needs to give Simmons a role and expectations. He didn’t seem like he knew where to be on the field. And that is on the staff. Escaped with victory intact. But let’s tell the youngster what position to play.

i think Kyle Shanahan found opportunities to force a rookie to make a decision

the long TD was like the same play they won the second game with -- RB out of the backfield, pick motion to make it seem like he is headed to the flat and then angles to the middle of the field

This is on Keim. This is what you get when you draft players without roles or instincts or to do things they did best in college.

Simmons gives up that second TD because he does not have the natural instincts you want out of a LB. Instead of recognizing the back out of the backfield and going under the TE, he gets caught thinking and then can't make it to cover the RB. It is very similar issues that Reddick has had.

Simmons was best in college when he was in space and could flow freely utilizing his athleticism. That is why many people, like me, thought he would be an awesome SS. We chose to make him an ILBw here false steps and poor leverage get you killed and this is the learning curve that comes with it.

Again, rewatch the play. That was a clear pick play and offensive PI

I am certainly not panicking. The dude is destined to be a baller for us.

I think you can tell that Kyle Shanahan was specifically targeting LB coverage scenarios and it bit him in the butt. No WR's, a hurt TE, it was up to the RB's and FB's to make things happen.

I'm still so elated from the victory. Truly elated!

The game for him is still going 900 mph. First time he's seen live action in the NFL. I think he'll learn from it and that what we want to see. Anybody expecting perfection was setting themselves up to be disappointed. IMO

IIRC Patrick Peterson got schooled by Steve Smith in his debut game

Pfft. Humble the kid. Now he knows what's up. He got picked on by one of the best teams in the NFL, with a great playcaller. Most importantly though, it was a win, so it doesn't matter that much.

This is the best possible situation for Simmons to learn. I have no worries.

agreed. Hopefully it just makes him work twice as hard while we sneak away with a W.
