alot of people want John Skelton instead of a guy like Whitehurst. What are you basing that on? If he's such a great prospect he should be easy to pick out of these 5 qb's i listed: Which one is John Skelton?

Well

1. I didn't know they play football in suits and without helmets.
2. You could make the same thread about Whitehurst a week ago or maybe even now despite him being in the league for some years.
3. How does that prove sth?

This proves it. I now want John Skelton based on this scouting report.

All this from an athlete who barely registered on recruiting radars during his years at Burges HS in El Paso, Tex. Skelton was a three-year starter, and as a senior, he was the "best player in El Paso, hands down," according to younger brother Steve, a junior tight end at Fordham.
But in the football hotbed that is Texas, Skelton garnered little attention. As a senior, he was overshadowed by Jevan Snead (now a starter at Ole Miss), Sherrod Harris (a backup at Texas) and Matt Stafford (the Detroit Lions' 2009 first-round draft pick).

The best player in El Paso, according to Stevie, how can we not want him.

There's another Texas HS QB that didn't get much of a sniff from the bigger programs. A lower-tiered school in the Big 10 took a flyer on him. Yeah, he just won the Super Bowl this year.

So he wasn't highly recruited out of high school. Who cares?

so Skelton is the next Drew Brees. Okay then. Sure guys fly under the radar.I was using that as a joke because it was his brother endorsing him. BUt no one had even known who Skelton was a month ago and now he's better and seems to be a sure fire producer at the NFL level.

Brees was a prolific passer and highly regarded coming out. Skelton is neither. I'd compare him more to Josh McCown,if that, than Brees.

I would rather trade up into Rd 2 & pick Colt McCoy than have Skelton or Whitehurst

Sorry Cbus but I am taking credit for this thread idea :) ;)

Those are just the names you recognize or the name of a guy you have heard a couple talking heads bring up and saw for 20 snaps this offseason. chances are you still couldn't pick Skelton out of a police line up, yet you are adamant he is a better player then Whitehurst.

You and I will be rocking the Whitehurst jerseys next year should Matty get pulled/injured I guess:thumbup:

Nah, not saying he's going to be a Drew Brees...he's taller ;)

No, just pointingg out the flaw in the logic. Sorry to crap on your joke. I just transposed the arguments from other threads. My bad.

Honestly, with Skelton, he's become my irrational 'want to draft him' pick. I'm not sure why. Underdog syndrome, maybe because he reminds me of Flacco a little bit. I like his measurables, and it's not as if I want to annoint him the QBOF; he'd be 3rd string.

alot of people want John Skelton instead of a guy like Whitehurst. What are you basing that on?

Let's do a breakdown of what we know about Skelton or any other draft prospect vs Whitehurst.

Both had good college careers.
Both have never made a pass in the NFL
Whitehurst would either be getting a vet contract and cost us a 3rd round pick or we would trade for him and he'd have one year left
Rookie we would have on a cheap contract for 4 year giving him time to develop.
Whitehurst has sat behind two good QBs. While that sounds great, it doesn't prove anything. Leinart has been sitting behind a hall of famer for a few years now too and has more experience.
Rookie would need to be coached.

Whitehurst has had the QB guru Norv Turner as coach. While that sounds great how many of Turners 3rd stringers have turned into good starters. I don't think he is a guru because every QB he touches turns into a pro bowler, just that he has a knack for finding starters.

So here's what we have:
Unknown: what any rookie or Whitehurst will give us on the field.
Known: rookie would be younger and have a better contract situation than Whitehurst
Whitehurst has been exposed to the NFL and coaching and is likely more ready to go this season.

So it comes down to do you think we need Whitehurst this season to win games? Is he clearly better than Matt? If not you go with a rookie.

I never heard of Skelton before today, or Whitehurst until this weekend. I think I'll wait to see what the Cardinals do before I look into either one.

Pretty useless test but he is the guy in the bottom left picture. But then again that proves nothing cause i could've googled him and identified him that way.

Also even if your test proves that most here dont know exactly what he looks like there is a very good reason for that--- he is from a very small school based in New York and therefore chances of people here in Arizona having seen him play live are minimal. But then again that is the case with most small school guys. I liked DRC when i saw footage of him and read his profiles and scout reviews/reports. That is gonna be the case a lot of the time with small school guys i.e. you like what you see of them in footage and what you read about them in reports.

Im personally not all that high on Skelton but if you could get somebody with his size, strong arm, decent feet and very good athleticism at his size in the 4th or 6th round its a pretty decent pick. Id personnaly be very happy if we brought in Anderson and then drafted Skelton. That way you have a good more proven back-up and a decent prospect as your third choice.

As our first 4 or so picks should be focused on strengthening our D chances of us picking a hot QB prospect in the draft are non-existent so you have go to for a project QB with good periferals and Skelton fits that bill IMHO.
