Cleveland, Boston, and Atlanta are the only other teams with multiple picks in the 1st round this year. That's something we might want to pay attention to for trade purposed. I'm not sure if any of them would be willing trade any of their picks but they may be more open to it since they have a couple of picks, depending on where they end up landing.

How many young players do we really want? I would think one good player from this draft would be plenty. Now if we shipped out a youngster or two and added a better one, that would be fine. Otherwise I think we should be thinking about trading those other picks for a quality vet in the 25 yo or so age bracket.

I'd like at least a couple of players from the draft... a PG and a center prospect. However, I wouldn't mind stashing a player in Europe and draft another PF prospect as insurance. Maybe the Suns even use Bender or Chriss in a trade to move up in the draft.

Also the Suns might attach second round picks to trade Dudley or possibly Chandler. However, Chandler may have a positive value to a contender or acquire another young player like Daniels.

McDonough has been thrifty with those second round picks for a reason. It will be interesting to see how he uses them.

I think the bigger question is which teams have NO picks in the first round? Only ones I can think of right now is Brooklyn, Miami and possibly Milwaukee if their pick conveys.

Yep. What team is in desperate need of a youth infusion and would give us a decent vet in exchange. We need to find a team like the Suns were in the Nance trade. They give up a young all-star level player to get a quality youth infusion.

Brooklyn. Yes. They need young players. They have some extra pgs. Dinwiddie would be nice.
Miami. Again. Yes. They need some young players. Could Dragan or Whiteside be on the trading block?
Milwaukee. They are hanging on to Brogdon like he will be a superstar. But they have been without Parker all year. Plus, he is a restricted free agent. He could be a possibility.

You also have to look at teams that might possibly have disgruntled stars. Kemba (probably), Kawhi, etc.

Our biggest needs are point guard, center, powerforward, in that order. Yes pf. Until Bender or Chriss steps up and claims that starting position with play worthy of it, we need to keep looking.

Yeah I agree with JC we need to start consolidating our picks and move some youth. If we can use "our" pick to get a PG/PF/C and trade the rest for a proven vet we might be finally getting somewhere. The amount of youth and picks we have is insane but also useful assets to be utilized.

After the season we need to get off this treadmill.

I really wonder though what the value of Chriss or Bender is on the market. Probably low.. pffft.

The key young players to add with picks for a star will probably be one of JJ or TJ. We will have to develop Chriss and Bender more. Alan Williams might be a possibility once he starts playing again.

Well, what would you give up for one of them? I know I wouldn't give up much, so I am assuming that's what their value would be like on the market.

yeah... can't imagine either one of them being super enticing pieces in a trade at this point. Hopefully one of them steps up the second half of the year.

Game of interest.

1. Magic v Pacers. Indiana would slip ahead of Milwaukee with a win, putting the Milwaukee pick in transfer range again. A Magic win puts them within 2 of the Suns. Take your pick which you prefer. I think I prefer an Indiana win. I think its going to hard for the Magic to catch the Suns (or the Suns catch the Magic going the other way).

2. Wizards v Atlanta. We arent catching Atlanta in the tank race, but a Wizards win moves them more comfortable ahead of Milwaukee and in range of Miami. Good for both of those picks.

3. Hornets v Heat. No brainer. Any Heat loss is good.

4. Nets v Wolves. Probably a Nets win is best, it puts them further away from the Suns in the tank race, and makes Cleveland squirm.

5. Mavs v Nuggests. Tough one here. We are getting close to the Mavs in the tank race, but the Nuggets are right there with Milwaukee. Tossup for me.

Really nice breakdown there JC. I like how you are following all the picks not just our own.

I'm amazed how things have tightened up with the lottery race. If you go just by records any team is catchable but as we know that isn't the we whole story. Some teams are just flat out terrible and will be hard to catch. However the way things are shaping up #4 slot may be a place we can reach and sustain and would alright all things considered.

The #4 slot is a guaranteed top 7 pick. Which would be good for the Suns because with our lottery luck it would be #7.

After acquiring of Griffin the Pistons seem to be back in the play-off hunt which is a good news for us and not so good for the Bucks.

Interesting games going on for the Suns' positioning:

Hawks are up by 3 on the Wolves with 1:13 to go.

Mavs within 5 of the Heat at halftime.

Bucks and 76ers in a close one.

And the Suns getting blown out by the Grizzlies.

A couple of days ago the Milwaukee pick was #16. Now it’s 21. Sure wish they would have kept Kidd.

All teams get a boost when they replace their coach midseason. They'll come back down soon. The Suns got a boost when Watson was fired also.

1.5 games out of number one... we really might be able to do it this time!

Of course, that's only until the league steps in with its fixed lottery draw and Cleveland or Boston miraculously gets the number one pick.
