Ok, I'll preface by saying there is probably no chance of this happening, because we probably can't offer him enough money (full midlevel, is around 5 years 31 million), and Washington will match even if he takes our offer.

But would you go for it? He's long, athletic, and a very good defender. His offensive game isn't there, but with his athleticism/slashing who knows what he can do in this offense. Besides the suns dont necessary need a scorer, they just need someone who isn't an offensive liability.

The main thing he adds is a versatile defender. He can guard wings, and at 6-11 can guard bigs a lot better than a shawn marion. In fact the other positive of this move is that if marion ever is moved jefferies can take over a lot of his responsibilities.

No he's not as good as marion, but he can fill in, and actually from what i've seen is not only a better post defender, but a better wing defender (he did a much better job on lebron james in the playoffs than I had seen marion do in the two suns games this year).

Then pickup chucky atkins for cheap, to address the backup point.

If we offered it, im not so sure Washington would match.

Maybe even try and sign&trade for him using Cleveland and our own first rounder in 07.Both will be in the 20's so who cares. Not like we'll use those picks anyway.

as much as i was loathe to draft him, if he'd sign for the mle, i'd consider it. purely due to his athleticism and defense.

With the luxury tax moving to 65 million, financially it is also very feasible this year. Move james jones/kurt thomas after this year, and it should be ok for the future as well (especially if the tax threshold continues to substantially rise).

I'd do it in a heartbeat for the full MLE. He hasn't shown too much so far in Washington, but maybe he just needs a change of pace. And really, who the hell else is there to sign?

Besides, we were stupid for drafting Amare over him, according to David Aldridge. :)

Wouldn't it be (horribly) ironic if Amare is never the same, but Jeffries developes into a solid player in the Phoenix system? I'd probably end up crying myself to sleep every night.

I would take Jared Jeffries for the mid-level exception, but Washington would just match.

We'll see how the off season plays out. My guess is the Suns will continue to look for a big combo guard, but things might change.

Jeffries wont sign for the MLE...he is prepared to take a one yr deal, to get the big money next yr , unrestricted. (and We really cant do a sign and trade either, not at 5 mill + per.) Thats just what I hear from some Wiz kids I know.

Big money? Do you think someone will offer him big money? He hasn't really lived up to his potential. Im sure he will get more, but i'm not sure I would pay even Raja Bell type money for him.
